At ours, Fiance parents hosted it at their home and had it professionally catered and bartendered. We just greeted our guests, ate, drank and went around to everyone. Nothing else. There were no speeches, and no games. Everyone just had a lovely afternoon of mingling with apps and drinks. We also did not open gifts at the party and waited until after…we didn’t want gifts but most people got us something little.

At ours, my in laws served finger food & desserts, and lots of champagne & cocktails. We just mingled with the guests, ate, listened to a few speeches, and then went home. It was nice.

We held an engagement party at a local Indian resteraunt and invited folks we knew wouldnt make it to Las Vegas.  We had a buffet and just mingled.  It was low key but very enjoyable.  And the old folks were appreciative we included them, even though they can’t fly.
