So I am having a difficult time deciding what I want to do as a career… I am finishing a BS in Biology in May and planned to go to nursing school… Due to my lack of making a decision earlier in college. I was excited to do nursing school and looking into being a neonatal nurse, then NP.
However… I have always been interested in forensics, criminology, crime stuff…. Considered medical examiner but don’t want to do medical school. I considered forensic nursing but I am not sure completely what the job entails. I think something in the field of death investigation and crime scene investigtion and analysis would be fun and interesting. With my biology background I could probably easily get into some kind of program for this…
But I’m not really sure what types of jobs are out there in ths field and how to get into them. Also, I live in Texas and my fiance and I are getting married in December. We don’t really want to move too far away from family so we are trying to stay in Texas which kind of limits options…
If anyone has job ideas, please make suggestions!
I know I can’t let someone pick my job for me, but maybe someone will mention a field I haven’t really heard of….
This is so stressful!

I am a finance girl myself so I don’t have too much as far as advice goes but want you to know I’m in the same boat with not knowing what I want to do! As far as your path is concerned – I signed up awhile ago for my body to be donated to science research after I pass away. There are a few places (not sure if there are any in Texas) that do research. I know there is a place that basically leaves the bodies in the woods or reenacts different environments to see how corpses react (how fast they decay, etc.) to better determine time of death in the future. Seems creepy to a lot of people – I find it extremely fascinating but not to actually work in so I will donate my body when I’m done with it haha 🙂

I did a quick GOOGLE for you – Forensics – and as I am Canadian got an immediate hit on this Website
Canadian Society of Forensic Science = http://www.csfs.ca/eng/general-information/careers
It has a lot of interesting info (guessing there is probably a US equivalent too)

Lol, if you don’t have a fear of “dead bodies”… you might also want to look at becoming a Funeral Director / Undertaker.
Not as scientific or “glamourous” perhaps as someone working in Forensic Science / Criminology…
BUT it is a Career that is always there no matter what the economy does… it is transportable (every town / city has a Funeral Home).
Sadly, will grow in need in the next 40 years (as Baby Boomers die)… and provides a very needed, often overlooked service to the community
Something to think about.
