Yes, there are quite a few things you could do in Charletown, or any where in South County for that matter.  If you go to Narragansett (only a few minutes north of Charlestown) you could go to Turlte Soup which is a nice upscale resteraunt right on the water.  Wakefield is a really nice village to stroll through with a great ice cream shop on Main street.  If you are looking for something more like a local diner, there is the Gentleman Farmer or the Village Haven both in Charlestown.  Westerly has several nice restaurants worth visiting, like Dylans and its really nice to stroll around Westerly as well.  Wilcox Park is really lovely.  If you do go to Westerly there is a place called Corks and Perks (a coffee/ bar house with live music in the evenings) that is such a nice relaxing way to spend a few hours at night. Hope this helps!

PS just about any of the beaches are worth a visit too.

So, this may be too late for your anniversary but if you make it back I second the Narragansett recommendation of Turtle Soup, it's across the street from the ocean just by the Towers and the food is delicious. Also in that area is the Coast Guard House, directly under the Towers on the ocean. If you go to Wakefield (literally 2 minutes from Narragansett) be sure to stop at Brickley'S Ice Cream - homemade ice cream and waffel cones. You could also cross the bridge and head to Newport for an amazing sunset (ask someone to point you in the direction of the "kite flying park" for my favorite view). Thames St. has some great restaurants like the Red Parrot whose menu is literally a book. If you keep straight on Thames, past the main section there is a little shop selling handblown glass which is also a workshop and if you have some time, you can make an appointment to take a glass blowing lesson and create your own hanging ball (Christmas tree ornament) which would be a great anniversary rememberance. Back on the mainland, Wickford, is a nice small New England town on the water. Stroll down main street, shop, eat, relax. Sorry, I don't know so much about Westerly or Charlestown exactly.
