So I was walking home today and noticed a bracelet lying in the middle of the sidewalk. I’m not really sure what to do about it. I’m not a great judge of jewellery, so I couldn’t even guess the value (yellow gold but could be plated, black and white/clear stones). It looks very similar to some cheap costume jewllery my grandma gave me from Publishers Clearing Hoouse. Anyway, what do I do? It seems silly and time consuming to march down to the police station and file a report, especially if it’s just cheap costume jewellery. Do I put up flyers in the area? Do I get it appraised and take it to the police if it’s worth anything? Do I make a craigslist ad in the lost/missing section? What would you do.

I would post a vague description on Craigslist Lost and Found. If the owner doesn’t come forward with a very specific description, I would take it to the police station.
It really doesn’t matter whether it’s real or costume, it could be very sentimental to someone.

Yep, I found a gold necklace on the sidewalk once and posted every week for 6 weeks on Craigslist lost and found, but nobody claimed it. Eventually, I gave up and just kept it. I still feel a bit guilty but I did try to return it to it’s rightful owner!

Does your town have some sort of Facebook group you could post in? My town has a sort of “public service announcements” page where people post things like lost and found items (along with other things like community events).
