My fiance and me got engagedx-mas eve ..and almost right away , we set a date ..June 5 2010 , and then right after that , the colors were chose ( blue and white , since hes greek and those are Greece's flag and since blue is my fave color) ..and right after that the bridemaids dresses were chosen ( waitin on 2 of them to pick up theres , but other than that... and about a month or 2 ago we decided on a Venue ..that comes with flowers and centerpieces , dj .etc., We've already talked to our officient and booked our chuch..Now though ..i kind of feel at a standstill...like you read those wedding planning guides and nothing is mentioned on what to do a yr from the date you marry ..I know i could be lookin at Photographers or deciding which Dj to choose( the venue gave us a choice)..but can't these things wait until were closer to the date .I guess i'm just tired of wedding stuff...

I'm not the typical bride by all means ..example..i tried on a bunch of wedding dresses and i felt like either a. i didn't belong here....or  b.  I was a  marshmallow ..You know the movie my big fat greek wedding ..the part at the  end when shes putting the wedding dress on .." i looked like a snow queen "...lol

I have told my fiancee ..can't we just elope ..i care more about the honeymoon than the wedding ..Were going to Hawaii ..my dream ..

Is what i'm feelin wrong ? Should i be doing anything else ?

DJ can wait. I'd get your photographer booked now, lest the one you liked be booked up, but otherwise, you don't have to be doing anything right now. Heck, if you want to elope, elope! But if you don't want to elope, check out J.Crew's and Nicole Miller's wedding dresses -- not a pouf in sight.

Also, are there any other Greek traditions you want to fit into the wedding? Maybe talk to his family about their weddings, talk to your family about theirs and figure out which traditions you want to include in your wedding?

Or just take a break for a while. You're engaged and your fiance isn't going anywhere. Make a vow that you won't mention the word "wedding" for a month, and go do other fun things. Set a deadline for getting back into the wedding planning swing of things again, but in the meantime, perhaps you could sign up for something you'd like to do but won't have time for once wedding planning starts in earnest? Rock climbing lessons? Skydiving? Cooking lessons? Walking in a forest? Improving your exercise routine? Changing your hairstyle? Is there anything your fiance wants to do before he gets married? The wedding process is not always fun, but the pre-planning process can be.

You should be picking out your photographer right now, IMO. Some of the really good ones book up to a year or more in advance.

Keep an eye out for photographers, since you're getting married in peak wedding season, but definitely take a break on everything else.

For dresses, check out some online galleries for more sheath dresses, or modified A-line.  I felt silly in all the pouffy ballgowns and big A-lines, but felt gorgeous in narrower skirts, with more flowing fabric.  I fell in love with soft, unstructured lace dresses and flowy skirts made out of embroidered tulle-- the structured satin dress look is just not "me."

And you know what?  You *could* just elope, if you're not feeling like you want the big wedding-- sounds like you'd lose some deposits, but if a big wedding is not what you want, then why go through with it?  Do things your way!  :)
