Okay, okay, I know this is probably a silly question but I’m starting my first big-girl job next week and all employees get a one hour lunch break to do whatever they want. The thing is, I’ve never had such a long lunch break. What does one do with all that time? Ideas?
I’ve thought of some potential things like:
–Run errands (dry cleaning, birthday presents, etc)
–Read (of course! 🙂 )
Things I’ve ruled out:
–Exercise (not enought time to shower & blow dry hair I assume)
–Grocery shopping (nowhere to put items that need to be refridgerated)

Actually – I work out on my 1 hour lunch. I get 15 mins to walk down, change etc, 30 to work out, 15 to shower real quick, dry my hair, which really is just re fixing it I don’t wash it at the gym or anything, dress, and walk back. I love it.

We technically get hour lunch breaks. However, we have the freedom to take them when we want. It is just that we work 8-5 and get paid of 8 hours a day.
Honestly I usually work through lunch. Sometimes I’ll run out and grab something but take it back to my office to eat. If I bring my lunch I just eat at my desk.
However, sometimes if I have errands to run I’ll run them around that time.
In the past I have worked out but it always ends up taking longer than an hour. From getting changed, working out, going to a building I can shower, then grabbing something to eat, it usually took me about an hour and 30 minutes.

You could always take a walk! That is what I do during my lunch break and it is a really refreshing change from the office.

I do homework for my Master’s class. When that’s not in session I take walks (I work downtown) or read a book. Also, I have made friends here over time and we sometimes go out to lunch and chat all hour long.

@CMSnails: My top items were: read, walk around (I usually work in a downtown area), and find some place to take a nap!

Thanks guys! This is helpful!
For those of you that walk, are you ever concerned with getting too sweaty? It can get into the 90s where I work so I’m worried about that. Probably overthinking this! 🙂

@CMSnails: Yes, esp. in the summer when it gets into the 100s here. Typically I limit the time I walk, or stay in the shade. I walk a lot more during the fall, winter, and early spring.

I usually don’t take a lunch unless I actually have plans to go out. I’d rather just go home earlier!

I go for a walk everyday on my lunch break. Its nice to get out and get some air. And you dont get all sweaty and gross like you would working out.

@CMSnails: Realistically I work straight through lunch 3 out of 5 days!
But when I can escape I go to the gym and work out or swim. It’s great to get away from your desk, and I recommend making a habit of getting away for the full hour (wherever possible) from day 1 otherwise you’ll end up like me and work through it all too often! (remember, it’s most likely unpaid work time!)

Um…eat? I take an hour lunch and go sit and eat and read.

I usually run errands or read if I don’t work through my lunch.

@CMSnails: I eat lunch and web surf or watch shows on my computer.

I spend 1/2 hour for lunch, and 1/2 hour for catching up on the Bee! True story. I’m involved in 8 weddings over a 5 month period and so my evenings are completely full. If I want forum time, it’s on the bus in the morning, or on my lunch. 🙂
