So my shower was last weekend. My aunt/grandma (who couldn’t attend) and cousin gave me a bowl it’s a Lenox bowl, along with a giftcard.
While the bowl isn’t HUGE, it’s not small. And while our house isn’t cramped, it’s not big. I just literally don’t have any extra shelving to put this bowl- that while it’s totally up some people’s alley’s, it’s not really up mine. If I had room, I’d have no problem finding a spot for it- I’m totally into mismatchy- stuff and could find a way to display it.
But I’m seriously cramped in room, and out of all my pieces, it’s true- I like this one the very least. What do I do?! I feel horrible wanting to find another home for it already.
What do you guys so in this situation.

Did it come from the same store as the gift card? Could you return it? I don’t see any problem with exchanging it for something you’ll use and love, and it’s still a gift from them.
Or could you use it for a little while, maybe to hold fruit as a centerpiece on your table? Then you can try to sell or donate it? I would do that, and then I wouldn’t feel so bad. Haha.
I would feel the same way. I’m pretty minimalist and am selective about my posessions, especially living in a sweet (teeny) house. If I don’t have a pretty immediate and functional use for something, I am very unlikely to keep it.
I doubt your family would want you to hang on to something you didn’t love and won’t use (and can’t store), so don’t feel bad!

i would keep it. seriously i have some random stuff i will NEVER use, but with some of it i have no damn gift receipt so i will just keep it. Maybe down the road i’ll donate it or something but for now the randomness is stored in the basement.

Eventually you may be able to use it, so I say keep it.

just keep it in the box, if it came in a box. and put the box somewhere safe.
you never know when you’ll need it. maybe for a holiday, you’ll need an extra serving bowl or something.

I, too, would keep it in it’s box and put it on the floor of my closet. You have a lifetime of holidays ahead of you and you are eventualy going to need a lovely serving bowl.

@colorofmyheart: No box- which doesn’t mean I can’t FIND a box for it- it’s a Lenox bowl- and I don’t know where they got it from- it was just in a gift bag (I feel like they picked it up at one a boutique that doesn’t do boxes—that, or they already had it and gave it to me? But that doesn’t seem like my family at all- to just give a random item at thier house. I can’t imagine any of them doing that to anyone- ever)
Naturally youd think- yeah- keep it in the basement! Which kinda makes sense, but seriously- my basement is small, too. I mean, there’s room down there, but there’s one closed off area that’s “storage”, the rest is construction (it’s a work in progress right now and we store nothing in the big open area)— but I guess I’ll just hang on to it as long as I can…..

I agree with the find a safe storage location if it’s an item you find pretty, and save it for special use.

@MrsEME: just donate it. There’s no need to keep something you will never use.
