Are you guys familiar with Blessings bags? I didnt know they were called that til I googled “stuff to put in bags for homeless, useful” right now, haha! I’ve made them in the past but havent made then in the past year or so… ** I know some of my bees are sensitive to religious naming so if you prefer you can call them Kindness bags, it really doesnt matter!
Anyway, for my wedding I made a very FULL bathroom basket that was probably stocked better than most people’s homes. It was kinda insane… I’m happy to say though that they were fully raided! As in nothing was left… which made me really happy but then again really… did ya have to take the WHOLE sewing kit?? anyway, whatever, I put stuff out there and was sooo happy people took it!
I had a TON of stuff left over tho, like 4 boxes of anti-bacterial wet wipes (each containing 24 singles packs) —-told you I went crazy! Though in my defense I also used some of this for the hotel bags… Anyway, I ended up having a ton of extra stuff and I figured I could put it all in little sandwhich bags and throw them in my purse to give to homeess people. I live in Chicago and well they are plentiful in the city.
I’d love to throw it out there as an idea for my fellow bees! If you have extra stuff consider donating it to a local shelter or making blessing bags of your own! Or if you didnt make a bathroom basket/hotel bags but want to do a kind deed maybe head to your local dollar store? I bet with just $20 you can buy a lot and brighten someone’s day!
My bags contain a mix of any of the following (and where I got them):
– antibacterial wet wipes (amazon)
– 2 pack of tylenol (amazon)
– kleenex packet (amazon)
– lotion (courtesy of hotels)
– shampoo/conditioner (hotels)
– face wash (clinique gift bags)
– soap (hotels)
– razors (dollar store)
– hand warmers ($store)
– band aids
– crystal light
– coffee/tea single serving
– granola bar (6 for a dollar at the dollar store)
– apple sauce ($ store)
– cheese it snacks ($ store)
and somehow I need to find a way to mark my “ladies bags” and in those I included
– pantyliners, tampons, pads,
– bobby pins, hair ties
My local library also has little guides on resources including shelters, soup kitchesn, hospitals, etc —I’ve always wanted to make one like this but when I saw those I was like YES! Score! I also want to throw in a cheery home made note!
I’ve read that socks are always wanted so next time I’m at TJ max I’ll look to see how much they cost in comparison to Amazon. I’ve seen them in the dollar bin at Target too tho!
So ladies! I’d really like to encourage you to give blessing bags a try! You can do them for very little money by collecting the stuff from hotels, gift bags you get from cosmetic stores, dollar store, target, amazon, etc.
Does anyone have ideas of other things I can include in my bags? I think maybe even some lipsticks would be fun! It’s not a “necessity” but who doesnt like to feel pretty every now and then? Why shouldnt they have that right? I get tons of samples all the time and I never wear them bc they’re rarely my color.. I’ve also seen people include chapstick, gift cards, coupons etc. WHat are your ideas?
Do any of you ladies already do this?
