    Hi all!

For our honeymoon, we're spending 5 days in Puerto Rico before leaving for a cruise of the Southern Caribbean.  I'd love to spend a day in El Yunque, and check out Vieques and Culebra, but am looking for recommendations on places to go, stay, eat, etc!  We want to balance relaxing and enjoying the beach with some fun activities!

Have you been to PR?  Do you have a favorite hotel/resort, or anything that you think is a must to do while you're there?  Please share!!  :)

im from Puerto Rico. el yunque is a great way to experience the island. i love culebra and the beaches are so lovely. you can also go to giligans island. the west side have a lot to offer. in the san juan area you have the old san juan, puerto rico art museum and the botanical garden.  you need to visit la parguera to see the bioluminicent bay, that is in the south of the island. about hotels you have different one and it depends on your taste and what are you looking for.

i forgot the caverns in Camuy. you have to experience that!! they are amazing. also the observatory in arecibo is very interesting and popular. if you guys like to drink a visit to the Bacardi Rum distillery is a most.

you can find more information here: http://www.gotopuertorico.com/

but if you need more you can send me a private message. i have favorite hotels that i love but you need to tell me what you guys are looking for.

Hi!  We had a mainly camping trip to PR so I don't really have hotel recommendations but we had similar stops lined up.  We stayed first night in Old San Juan - that's a really fun little city, I liked it more than the newer sections of San Juan.  Then we rented a car to go to El Yunque, but we got a bit of a late start and hit a massive amount of traffic so we just went to Fajardo so we could catch a ferry for Vieques in the morning.  Fajardos alright but really not too much to see if you can schedule just getting there in time for the boat, our car was fine in the gated parking lot.

If you go to Vieques definately do the bioluminescent bay, it's really beautiful.  We swam in it a bit but there are jellyfish.  They don't hurt bad but I got stung and a bunch of other people we talked to about it had gotten stung.  Vieques is just a beautiful beachy area, we just hung out and rented kayaks and relaxed.

We then did El Yunque on the way back.  The hikes start pretty high up and there aren't many groceries around, it's not a place I'd want to drive at night, not because of danger but because of the windy roads, so make sure you have snacks and stuff before you get there.  I think we went in a bit of a different entrance though than most because we really didn't see too many people, but there's lots of trails everywhere.  If you can go on a night hike it might be worth it as they have cute little frogs that come out.

we loved El Yunque, The Bacardi Distillery, and the club at The San Juan Hotel. You can also visit the Old Fort. I really had a great time & I'm sure you will too!!

oh, We stayed at the Hilton Hotel. it was VERY NICE, but it was outside of San Juan and the cab rides were a bit pricey...

Thanks for the ideas!  As of now, we're planning on staying the first night in Isla Verde (probably the Ritz, but maybe the El San Juan), the 2nd and 3rd nights in either Rio Grande (the Rio Mar or Gran Melia) or Fajardo (El Conquistador), the 4th night in Vieques (not sure on hotel yet), and the 5th night in Old San Juan (also not sure on hotel).

We are definitely planning on going to El Yunque, and doing the bioluminescent bay in Vieques, but don't have a ton of other plans.  Anything to do in those areas that you can recommend?  :)

I went to PR for spring break, and we were keeping things cheap, so I don't really have any good hotels or restaurants to recommend.

El Yunque was cool (we did a bus day trip). We also went to Arecibo. It is home of the worlds largest radio telescope. I would recommend going there. It was cool.

Overall I loved the trip and would definitely go again!
