I have a 200 dollar budget and big dreams of getting him an ipad.  Now I know that's not happening but I'm trying to decide what to get him as an alternative.  I can get a refurbed Nook Color for 149, or a kindle fire for 199.  I just am not sold on either of these options.

Or should I just do something completely different?

I am also getting him a wooden spoon, suggestions?  (He asked for it- I swear!)

    Thoughts?

Well, not knowing him it's hard. I have the hardest time looking for presents for FI, luckly for me the new Halo game's comming out soon.

Is there something in particular he likes, like a videogames, books, movies.. try something like that..

Videogames: I already prebought Skyrim for myself and the next game he's interested in isn't out until January (I believe).  So no options there.

I don't know, most of the time if he wants something he buys it and he doesn't want very much- which makes it difficult to gift him.

Instead of a thing, how about an experience?

Tickets to a pro game? And arrange tailgating? A concert? Indoor skydiving?

Lessons for something hes been wanting to do? If he is into it, wine tasting and cheese tasting/pairing? Beer brewing etc.

Is his birthday close to Christmas? If it is, maybe you can justify doing the ipad as a dual present? If not, I wouldnt go with the kindle or nook unless he's realllyyy into reading, I would wait to save up until you can actually purchase the ipad since you can do so much on it.

    What about an ipod touch?

What else is he interested in, besides video games?

@mrscheetos: Sigh, unfortuantly due to my inability to find a better job 200 dollars is the budget for both xmas/bday.  I'm already combining them.  I know he wouldn't be interested in an ipod touch but he would be interested in a ipad.  He likes sports (watching and playing), gadgets, stuff he can use for his work (all out of price range, he's a 3d artist- so like tablets, programs(he owns most already like Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, etc.))

Beer brewing is an interesting idea but he's not a beer connoisseur, he just likes to drink with friends.  I really doubt he'd actually be interested.

Tickets to a pro game could be fun- but how much does that cost?  Or a concert- but honestly all of the bands/singers he likes don't actually tour anymore.

Now I feel like I'm just being difficult- haha.

@accorn: pro game would depend on what team and what sport. It varies widely.

@accorn: No you're not being difficult, that's what happens when your man's... ... unique (I like that word).

I'm giving him the not-yet-released videogame. His BD is Oct15 and the game wont be released until Nov. But, not being able to think of something better I preorder it and will give him a coupon for it. I did the coupon thing on father's day when my dad's gift shipping got delayed.

He wants the videogame and I can't think of something else, so he should wait until the release date.

@accorn: Would he like a nice watch? I got my FI a really nice watch for our engagement. Its a Bulova. Their watches can range from $200-2,000. I was lucky enough to snag one that was on sale from $500 for only $99. And it is REALLY nice, looks expensive, and he loves wearing it when we go out. You should check out Macy's website, they have a bunch on there!

Also, my FI is really into soccer (idk if yours really likes a certain sport) so as a random gift I got him a personalized jersey for his favorite soccer team (Argentina). It was around $80. Since your budget is $200, you could do the watch for his bday, and the jersey for christmas..or vice versa?

    Hope this helps :/

I am in the same boat when it comes to a tight budget. My husband's birthday is November 27th, our one year wedding anniversary is December 11th & then everyone knows when Christmas is. Also our five year dating anniversary is December 15th, but I am just getting him a gift for our wedding anniversary since they are only 4 days apart.

I have been looking online at race stuff on ebay. I am trying to find something Autographed for his birthday. IDK if I will be able to find anything cheap enough though. I just got him a watch for Valentines day so that is out. :/ For our one year wedding anniversary I already found some really nice but cheap bracelets. They're stainless steel. I haven't picked one yet, but there are all kinds on overstock.com

So far for Christmas I got him a football blanket. I snagged it for 12 dollars! But I will get him something else. Maybe a new ps3 game or something. Online shopping is my best advice! You can snag stuff for cheap if you keep your eyes open! Good luck! :-)

Also on google shopping just now I was looking for Dale Jr stuff for cars. & I found floor mats for 25 bucks, a steering wheel cover for $14 & car stickers for anywhere from a dollar to 15 + dollars! I now know what I am getting him for his birthday! :-)

EDIT: I also found a Dale jr cd cover, boxers, jacket, pj's, ect! You could really score if he is into any sport!

So if your FI loves any type of sport google on shopping for stuff like that!

Since he likes sports, what about a jersey of his favorite team/player? My DH loves them, and likes getting new ones for different players he likes.
