I voted for the roast chicken. It’s fairly easy and you can dress it up a lot to make it look fancy and like it took you all day to make 😉 Maybe homemade apple pie for dessert?

Unless you know for a fact that they like fish, I’d go with the chicken.

(The halibut sounds delish, but it would be unfortunate to go to the trouble only to discover that someone is having weird feelings about our friends from the sea.)

What would your DH suggest? I voted for the roast chicken, because it’s a pretty universally liked dish.

I know this isn’t a “real” answer heehee, but I think you should serve what dish you are MOST COMFORTABLE making. If one of those is a dish you make like once a week, and you know it in and out, then I would say go with that one over the others. If all those dishes are ones you feel equally comfortable with, I would vote for spaghetti or roast chicken. Both are great “homey” meals!!!

I think even if the fish is easy for you to cook, its much easier to mess up.  Chicken should be liked by everyone and is pretty hard to mess up.

I think burgers might be too casual and spaghetti kinda feels like a cheap college meal to me.

Hard to say without knowing their tastes, but it’s hard to go wrong with chicken!

I agree with the PP’s that it’s hard to go wrong with chicken! Also if they’re staying for a week what about doing chicken for the first meal and then spagetti for the final meal?

The chicken will please the most amount of people and can be dressed any number of ways. Plus it will look like you spent more time and thought into the dinner than the spaghetti. But I love spaghetti so I would be happy with that. I don’t know if you are hoping to impress them, but if you are, chicken is the way to go!

    Great, now I’m hungry.

Make the engagement chicken for them, and tell them the whole story about how this great meal made your DH propose!  That would be a great conversation over dinner! Smile

I voted chicken too.  There’s just something down home about it, that HAS to make your MIL feel like she’s left her son in good hands. 🙂
