I'm really excited about the idea of doing a boudoir shoot as a gift for FI, and since Laurie Peacock is doing a marathon day, it's finally in my price range. (Yay!)

Anyway, I have a really vintage glam style, and I love buying new clothes and lingerie, but I am on a really tight budget. I have only one cute dress and one pair of shoes that I can think of bringing, nothing else, but I'd like shoes, lingerie, jewelry, etc. Any ideas on where to hunt these things down? I can spend hours scouring Etsy, but thought you all might have ideas too.

I'm looking for this kind of feel:

I'd go give Target a look, they tend to have cute shoes, jewelry, lingerie. Also for shoes and jewelry you can check out consignment places. Ebay is also a great place to look (and they're new) as well as amazon.com

Thanks, I'll definitely check out Target.

I've been to a lot of the consignment shops around here, and have a hard time finding my shoe size (5.5) and prices still tend to be $200 or more. But then again, I go to school in Lincoln Park!

    Any other ideas?

Believe it or not, H&M has cute lingerie. Unfortunately, you can't shop online for some reason.

Love love love the inspiration photo you posted.  Is there a Nordstrom's Rack or Loehmanns near you?  I have had good luck with the lingerie dept at both.  gAlso, don't overlook TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc -- they are definitely hit or miss but every now and then you might find something great.  It sounds like our styles are similar, here are some of the "props" I am thinking of bringing to mine:

    - Lipstick (I want a photo of me applying it)- Red wine & glass- Hat /fascinator: saw a cool one on Target's website)- Boa- Strands of Pearls

    Good luck with your shoot!

@krissy - etsy is the answer for everything!

I think I'm just drawing a blank as to where on Etsy to start looking... so if you can even recommend specific sellers/jewelry/slips, etc, I would love it!

i used this seller for a new corset ribbon (for my laceup wedding dress, she made me a light blue cord to replace the white one I had to add a splash of color):

Check out vintage stores in your area; I've picked up some great 1930s nightgowns in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Long strands of pearls, one of his button up work shirts, or his favorite team's jersey? Fishnets. A cute apron, your veil, a satin sheet, flower bouquet. Try Googling for some boudoir photographer's blogs, you can get a lot of ideas by just looking at other's pictures!

What about some of your FI clothes or favorite team jersey?  I've seen some really cute ones with a men's button-up shirt or with the tie that the groom will be wearing at the wedding.  My FI and I play soccer and he's obsessed with it so I plan on taking a soccer ball and his team jersey to see what we can come up with.

Or an item that means something to both of you.  Maybe golf clubs if your first date was putt-putt or Scrabble tiles if you play board games a lot.  A dashboard hula girl if your honeymooning in Hawaii?

@stine_white - I was thinking about that but a) he's not a sports guy whatsoever, so no jerseys or anything and b) - his clothes look really ridiculous on me because of our size difference... I basically get lost in them! And since we're both broke, he doesn't have many outfits and would definitely notice something was gone.

I can't think of what else is us... I mean, we both love wine nights and dressing up, so maybe one of his ties? I don't think he'd notice if that was missing for a day.

Thanks, Amanda, didn't even know that was an option! Do you notice any certain props that make girls feel better/less inhibited? I think I'm going to have a hard time loosening up!

Amanda - We do allow vendors to participate on the boards, but we don't allow vendors to link to their site in a sig line... or to promote their own services.  That's probably why your previous post was removed...

We do allow self promotion in the Classifieds...

sorry, I didn't read everyone's, but...make it personal!  In addition to the usual lingerie, I brought his cowboy boots (super cute!), a mardi gras mask (he's from NOLA) and a cymbal (he's a drummer)  I'll let you use your imagination, but they rocked!

Um, I wouldn't really want a picture of my FI lying all sexy naked on a couch ala George Costanza.  No thanks.  That would be a little bizarre.

@Amanda - thanks! I look forward to reading your post!

@Sulli - ooh, love that site! I hadn't been there before, it definitely opens up the possibilities. Thank you!

@CannotWait - those are great ones. I'm usually better with personal stuff like this (presents, etc) but for some reason I'm having a harder time coming up with props that are very "us."
