I’m not quite sure if this is the right board, so I appologize if it’s not.
I recently started dating this guy, and we’ve really hit things off. Well, he invited me to be his date to a wedding in about a month. He’s in the wedding party, so he will be in a tux. I don’t really know a whole lot about the wedding except that it will be at a country club in Miami. It is starting to get really hot and humid down here, so I can only imagine how warm it will be in another month. I can only assume that since the guy I’m going with will be in a tux and since it’s at a country club that it will be a pretty formal wedding. I’m just not sure what I should go with. We don’t have a lot of mutual friends, so this will be my chance to make a first impression on a lot of people in his life. I was kind of thinking of wearing a long dress, but everything I see is either too prom-ish, too bridesmaid-ish or too casual. I’m also not sure if a short dress would be appropriate either. And also what type of color do I go with? My original instinct was to go with a darker color like black, gray, or navy. It is springtime in Florida, though, which makes me think I should pick something in a lighter color, but then does that make the dress seem less formal? Oh please help!! And if you have any specific dresses, I’d love pictures!!!

I think you should go for a below the knee dress.. not too short as to be too revealing, but not too long to be too formal. Color wise, I think a neutral is best, like a nude or a light brown.. or even a patterned dress!

@jade01: Good, bc I love photos, as well. 😀 Keep in mind the country club will be air-conditioned (though it’s likely they’ll have the ceremony outside to really utilize the beautiful view).
If I were you, I’d go with festive bright colours (whether softer or more jewel-toned). I’d also keep the fabric fairly light and fluid. These are all just to give you general ideas:

I am wearing this to my brothers summer wedding. The dress is a light summer dress but I am able to add to it to make it look more formal.

@jade01: Definitely ask the guy to find out what the dress code is: black-tie, black-tie option, cocktail, semiformal, country club casual, etc.
I’ve been in wedding where the guys wore tuxes, but the bridesmaids wore short dresses, so I definitely would not assume a long dress is required. You will stand out if the bridesmaids are wearing short dresses and you are wearing a long dress! Springtime in Florida to me screems short colored dress – trendy since its in Miami.
I would probably wear something like this based on your description:

Or even a hi-low dress if you are trendy enough to pull that off! (I am not sadly).
