Hello! So I’m from the UK, attending my first US weddign when my friend gets hitched in a few weeks. It’s a church ceremony then indoor-outdoor reception, invite says ‘dress for the weather’…I gather it’s fairly hot there in the summer? From being on the boards I feel like US etiquette is stricter so I thought I’d ask the bees for outfit help
Here’s a few options I was considering, thoughts?

sydneyfrancis88 : I love the last one and the first one. Though I thin kk the first one is a bit more formal than necessary.

I absolutely love that last one. All will be good for the weather. As it will probably be rather hot. The last one is just so pretty though! I might buy it myself for a summer wedding I’ll be attending. Thanks!

MN in the summer can be VERY hot and outrageously humid. I think the last one with a cardigan for church and just in case it cools off at night.

I live in MN. It is hot as balls here in August and humid as well. Wear something breathable and lightweight!!
Maybe bring a cardigan for the evening, but I doubt it would go below 60 degrees.
As for the dresses, the first two look like they would be too warm. I think that third one is perfect!

Daytime? Night time? Where in MN? Northern MN along Lake Superior will usually be about 10 degrees cooler with a nice lake effect than say the Twin Cities area (and I just looked it up – Duluth, MN along Lake Superior is currently 30 degrees cooler than Minneapolis right now). That said, the Twin Cities area has been pretty darn hot and humid this summer – it’s just muggy and sticky more often than not.
All three are nice. 1 and 3 definitely require a cardigan in my opinion if you’re going to be in church. 2 could get away without (but still might be nice if the temps cool off at night – though they haven’t lately). Depending on where it is at #1 might be more formal than necessary (say it’s at a conservatory, then it would be appropriate, but if it was at an inn that also has a garden then I would stick with #3). I actually prefer #2 or #1 in that order and probably wouldn’t do the floral unless it was daytime, but I tend to be a little more formal in my dresses than probably necessary and don’t much care for floral patterns for evening weddings.
ETA: Just saw the navy dress is polyester. Probably not unless the wedding is in northern MN off the lake and evening.

I really love #3! When the weather is super hot I always try and wear non-sleeved dresses (i.e. not #2) so I don’t sweat as much

sydneyfrancis88 : What, annabananabee said. I also live in MN, currently it is 89 degrees and humid as in tropical humid. (I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Thanks for the input guys! It’s in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, church ceremony then 5pm reception at an orchard, if that’s any help?
I figured the first 2 might be too heavy/formal, they were just outfits I happen to already have that I’e worn to other weddings. May be a reason to treat mself to a new dress!
