Okay ladies (and gents, if there are any reading :P)
We just scheduled our engagement shoot for the beginning of October. We’ll be doing our session in a beach town, but we are located in the Northeast so it won’t be summer weather anymore at that point. I’m sure I’ll be comfortable in a dress, and we won’t need coats or anything, but a sundress really isn’t an option.
On top of this, my favorite look by far on my Fiance is his work pants and a button down shirt with the sleeves rolled (c’mon ladies, I know I’m not alone in this ;)). I’d love to see him in something like that, with me in a dress, but am thinking this could be far too formal for a beach setting. I’m sure we’ll do some photos on the beach but the others will be on the boardwalk, on a dock, a playground, or at the local yacht club.
Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions? I’d ask my photographer but I don’t want to be the PITA bride with a zillion questions, lol.

I think it will be fine. My Fiance and I did a wardrobe change in the middle. We did casual for the first half and semi dressy for the second half. I had jean capris and a hot pink t-shirt with black flowers and he had khaki shorts and a black t-shirt. Our colors for the wedding are hot pink and black so that’s why we went with that for one of our outfits. We took those pics down ally ways and by water. The second outfit I had a teal dress that wasn’t too dressy and he put on a blue and black button up shirt to go over his black t-shirt. We took those pics at a park and down a nature trail. I don’t know if my outfits really matched the scenery, but the pics turned out great! Just have fun.

@LilySarah: Love the concept you laid out!
My Fiance and I did a shoot at a local state park.
The first part, we were out on a rowboat. I wore a cute, sheer-ish plaid shirt, denim cutoffs, and my Hunter Wellies. My Fiance wore a casual linen button down (sleeves rolled up) and some dark jeans and flip flops.
The next outfits were: a pair of trim-cut linen pants (got them at Banana Republic) and a v-neck t-shirt for him, and I wore this amazing cream lace dress with handkerchief hemlines and a draped, open back. A little hippy-ish, but sooo amazing in photographs.
Wear things you know you love, and feel good in. Think about the colors AND the tone of the photos you want. Do you want a slightly washed-out effect? If so, stick with neutrals and cool colors. If you want a pop of bright, toss in a red flowy scarf or a cozy cardigan. Think about the movement. If you have a patterned or textured blanket, bring that. We have amazing pictures of us wrapped up in one, holding each other.
I’d do casual on the beach: a cozy sweater, scarf, and jeans with the bottoms rolled up (barefoot, of course) for you, and him in a button down with the same look ont he bottom. You could get a little more dressed up for the yacht club part.
