    Hi Everyone -

We have our engagement shoot in a few days and I am torn on what to wear.  Our pictures will be taken in a national park with a covered bridge, on railroad tracks, etc. (No clue where the others will be in the park, but all outdoors).  I had originally been planning on wearing jeans and a black cashmere sweater (it's slimming) but it is going to be really warm this week, and now my mother is telling me jeans "aren't special enough" for these photos.  My alternative is a dress I bought that is a casual dress in our wedding colors (brown/green) that is super cute, but I'm concerned it would look silly in a park.  Any thoughts?

I think whichever selection is fine!!! Could you wear both and just do a wardrobe change? And maybe have your fi' go in with a blazer and take it off when you do the change?

Honestly, I wish I had put more time into deciding what to wear for my E-pics.  If I were thinking, the perfect thing for me to wear would have been a skirt (it is the most flattering on me).  Instead I wore trouser jeans that really added un-needed bulk.

What I really wish I could have done was an outfit change so that I got half in one outfit and half in another - i just wasn't thinking.

Regarding your dress in the park issue- I really think it will look great.  You have to imagine what the pics will look like (not how you feel in the moment).  I mean if you think about it, a lot of weding parties have wear their formal gowns and tuxes for park pictures....

I would be more concerned about looking cohesive with your FI.  So, if you wear the dress, I would just make sure your FI is wearing something complimentary.

I think your engagement shoot should look like the two of you - if your mom wants a more formal and "special" look, perhaps you can take a few close-up "beauty" shots that doesn't really matter what you wear.  Because I think a dress probably would look a little off in the woods...

My mom questioned us wearing jeans at first, too, but it looked like us and it fit the scenery. I think the pics turned out great.

Go with your first instinct and wear what you want to wear. If you're most comfortable in jeans and think they look best on you, then you'll be happy with the pictures.

FI and I both wore jeans--that's basically all I wear when not working. I do wear dresses during the summer but our pictures were taken when it was a little cold out so I decided not to do a dress. I wanted us to both be comfortable and I think if you have a nice pair of jeans, then go for it.

I wore a dress, tights, and boots with a knee-length wool coat.  FI wore trousers, shirt/tie, and a coat too.  We were on a college campus.

No matter what, wear what you're comfortable in.  It will show in pics!

I think jeans would be fine.. especially if you're wearing it with a sweater.. get some nice boots to wear too and you should be set! Have fun!

If it is possible, I think you should get pictures in both!  The 2 outfits will give a different feel to the shoot, and both will be beautiful!  If not, I would go with what you feel best in - it is ultimately about who you and your FI are.  As the other bees said, either the jeans or the dress will look good in the park.  Have fun!

I wore jeans in mine! I think it's not about what's appropriate so much as fitting your personality. But I second the suggestions of changing outfits. Why not? Then you'll get to wear both! :)

Wear what you're most comfotable in.  We both wore jeans in our E pics and they turned out great!  If you want a more fancy look, wear a dressier top.  Also, just as a side... we both wore white tops and it looked awesome in our pictures.

Good luck!  You will have so much fun doing your e pics!

I have to follow-up with a funny story (at least now).  I decided to go with the dress - and when my fi helped me zip it up the zipper broke!  Stuck half up and half down with no way of fixing it - and my alternate, the jeans, were dirty!  I was crushed at the time - would have been in tears if I hadn't had my make-up done.  I chose a random outfit and sulked all the way to the location, but cheered up once we got started.  Now I'm anxiously waiting to see how the pictures turned out!
