I had a plan but it didn’t work out, so now I have absolutely nothing to wear to a wedding tomorrow. At like five?
I don’t think I can wear a dress because I am 17 weeks pregnant and starting to show, and all the dresses I have don’t fit and those I tried on last week made me look like a whale. Not “cute and pregnant” but gross. Of course.
I thought leggings (not just stretch pants) with a nice top but now I’m second-guessing that since I have fat legs and ugh. It’s just not a good look.
I can look online right now for ideas and then go shopping after work. We have a horrible Macys, no H&M, no maternity stores that I’ve seen… I can go to the outlets (Banana, Loft), but I don’t know what to look for.
Any ideas? Are there dresses that hide belly fat? I googled that and got a bunch of skinny women with no belly to speak of.

peachacid: How about a maxi dress paired with a cardigan of some sort?

weatherbug: I’m only 5’2″, so I can’t wear a maxi dress.

I’d look for an empire waist style dress. Our Macy’s has a maternity section near the dresses. I’d look for something in this kind of shape/sillouette. Just make sure it’s long enough for your belly… being short should help with that though.

That’s exactly what I want to look for…but I am so unhopeful because two weeks ago I went to the mall to look for dresses and the only style I found was tight or “sheath”, neither of which works for me. If I can’t find that, what do you think? Feigning illness seems like the best bet.

peachacid: You mentioned that you can get to a few outlets. If it’s a decent sized outlet mall it should have a maternity store. There’s a larger Gap and Old Navy near me that have small maternity sections. Otherwise I’d look for empire waist and a longer length so it’s not too short in the front with your belly. A maxi dress could work if you rigged it with hem tape for the evening. Good luck!

There are some store’s that have maxi dresses in their petite section…I don’t know if that would be an option

Aren’t maxi dresses for the beach? I don’t think that’s wedding-appropriate, is it? Anyway, I’ve never looked good in one. I’ll look this afternoon, but I’m not optimistic.
I hate dressing up.

Wait, I’m 5’2″ and maxi dresses can be a little long, but you can definitely wear them. Especially pregnant and with no other options the next day!
I would just start hitting those outlets hard, try on lots of things & hope for the best..
If nothing works, hey, you’re pregnant! What better excuse to show up to a wedding in comfy leggings? 🙂

Do you have a Target? They seem to have a pretty decent maternity section and is pretty affordable.
If not, it’s really hard to tell you what to wear without knowing what stores are available or close by.

peachacid: No matter what we tell you, you will argue against it. You have posted your pics here before. You do NOT have fat legs. Short people CAN wear a maxi dress.
Given that you are pregnant, and that you don’t like yourself in anything, anyhow, I suggest you buy either a maternity dress or an empire waist dress. At least then, you woud have something to wear in the next few weeks.
A top and leggings are not appropriate for a wedding.
See if your Macy’s has this dress . It’s from their maternity seection, but it has a removeable belt so you can place it wherever suits you best at the time.
this one would be perfect for the holidays
This maxi (yes you can wear a maxi) is on sale, perfectly on trend in black and white and the diagonal stripes fool the eye in regards to both height and width. Wear it with a cute black cardigan or wrap.

I don’t think I need maternity clothes yet…but I’ll check out Target later. I just need ideas of what to look for in the various stores. I really wanted to wear pants so I don’t have to worry about shoes.

You could also try a wrap dress. Those are easy to wear and adjust to however your belly is feeling at the moment.
And I agree, I wouldn’t do a maxi dress as my first choice (not because you’re “too short” for one — you’re not! but because I htink they tend to be too informal for weddings).

ps Make an appointment in the near future with a wardrobe stylist/personal shopper and LISTEN to what they say. Put aside your own opinions. You have had plenty of feedback here on the Boards that you are not seeing yourself as other see you.
We shouldn’t have to go crisis shopping. Our closets should contain pieces that we can wear in different ways to different events. You will spend less money and not be wasting time right before an event trying to find something to wear.
You are going to need clothes throughout your pregnancy and you will likely have at least a few events where you want to dress up.
If you realy want to wear pants, and you own some in a dressy material, look for an embellished tank top that is loose and flowy at the bottom.

julies1949: I did try to make an appointment, but the closest is two hours away, and our schedules never fit. It’s not like I have thousands of dollars to spend on shopping anyway.
Anyway. The dresses you posted are cute, but the Macys won’t have them. They don’t have dresses in either the petite or maternity sections. Thanks, Macys, for being so crappy! I really like that second one, so hopefully I can find something similar.
And I know this is super easy for everyone to do, but it’s hard for me. Every time I have to dress up nicely it is a crisis because I hate it so much.
