I’m trying to help my Grandmother find a nice pants suit for our wedding (March 2012) and would greatly appreciate it if anyone might recommend a store/designer where I might find something that would be appropriate. She is 85 years old and will be walking me down the aisle. She found a top/skirt combination, but it was extremely understated and more appropriate for a dinner out – not to mention she told me that she would feel more comfortable in pants. She keeps saying that she doesn’t want to “take away from [me]” by having anything that’s sparkly or “frou-frou” on, but I’m so proud of her and I want to share the spotlight with her We’re having a relatively small (~100 guests), intimate evening wedding, with a vintage book theme and lots of candle light/dim lighting and the colors are ivory and dark green. Any suggestions?
I’m also trying to find something for my younger sister to wear. She is 19 years old and has a very different style than, well, basically everyone else who will be at the wedding and she has often dressed inappropriately for formal functions in the past. Mr. K and I have asked that she take out all of her facial piercings and find a dress that covers all of the tattoos – she reluctantly agreed to this. I want to help her to find a dress that would be appropriate, but everything that I’m finding online that would cover her from neck to wrists to ankles is very dowdy looking. Also, she is a plus sized girl and she would likely think that the dresses are too “mature” for her. Any suggestions regarding stores/designers would be greatly appreciated!

For plus size sister check these:
I am plus sized, hate my arms and have had luck at all of these places. Your sister might like torrid because it is a plus spinoff of Hot Topic.
I also just had luck at the Bettie Page store www.bettiepage.com – 50’s style, but available in plus sizes.
Now for Grandma:
Again I suggest dressbarn.com (they have “regular” size section as well.)

i’m just curious as to why you’re asking your sister to take out her piercings and cover her tattoos? i’d be pretty upset with my sister asking the same of me. is she in the wedding?
aside from that, everything @bridget.sutter has posted is pretty much what i would suggest.

@cardus: We’ve asked her to take out her piercings and cover her tattoos because it’s an elegant affair and as such, the number of tattoos/visible facial piercings would be inappropriate to display. We’re not having a bridal party, so no, she will not be in the wedding. I completely understand why one might be offended if they were asked to cover up tattoos/take out piercings (I have a tattoo and have had piercings in the past), but I also think it’s important to dress and present yourself appropriately for such an occasion.
Thank you for all of the suggestions; I really appreciate it!

I also agree with the 1950’s style for your sister. There are some plus-sized swing dresses that are AMAZING!
As for your grandma…well, that’s just too cute to bear. I’ve never had a grandma but now I want one!

for grandma, my mom really wanted pants as well. Alfred Angelo actually offers separates – which means for whatever top they show, she should be able to order pants as the bottom half. I think there are two styles – i found this link that shows the options: http://www.thewasonline.com/cart/catalog/images/alfred_angelo_skirt_styles.jpg
Check out their mothers collection – my mom ended up choosing #7157 as her top. The crinkle chiffon items only come in limited colors (and do go see them in person, somewhere – they are very different online vs. in person!). But the satin & chiffon options come in almost the full range of AA colors.
Hope this helps!

@MrsKtobee: You may also want to check out Forever 21 online, they have a Forever 21+ plus size division with many cute dresses. Macy’s has a junior plus size department in some stores and they have it online as well. Both have lots of cute, age appropriate dresses! Almost forgore, one other place is Nordstrom Rack online, they have tons of pretty dresses that are not dowdy in the womens-plus size section. Good luck!
