    I am probably overthinking this, but I need some suggestions, bees.

    We're having a casual outdoor celebration on 9-3-11 for about 90 guests. Many of our guests are beer drinkers. What kind of beer would you like to see offered at a bbq? I am struggling with what types of beer to choose. We are on a low budget, but we'd like to offer a few choices. Any ideas? I'm lost...

    I would like to see a light beer like Amstel Light and something like a Sam Adams or Yeung Ling

    Heineken Light is my personal fav so I would vote for that. My beer tastes are pretty generic and I’ve found that a lot of people don’t mind Heineken (atleast in my circle). I would offer atleast one light and one dark so that you cover all of your bases.

    DH and I are kinda beer snobs but in a pinch I'll still drink blue moon.

    I would recommend a regular and a light. Covers both bases. Bud Light is the most popular light and I would say Yuengling for the other. Honestly if you are basing it on price call around and see what the best prices are.

    I'd also recommend a regular and light option.  Heinekin Light is also a personal fave.  When you get some choices you should make a poll.  Might be easier to see the results!

    i'm not a beer drinker but my family is.  they usually drink heineken.

    in my other circle of friends, fat tire, stella artois, or other local brewery options are favorites.  i've found that people either love or hate blue moon.  my brother served kegs of kirin.

    Well, lucky for me, I don't think the majority of our guests are beer snobs. ;) I was just trying to get a feel for the most popular choices so I could go from there. I am a red wine girl myself, so I don't know much about beer...

    I mean, I realize I'll never please everyone. I was just hoping there were a few choices that really stood out. Thanks for all the responses bees.

    cold.

    okay but beyond that - we'll do a bud light since it seems to be a crowd pleaser (though i don't like it) and boulevard wheat, which is a pale wheat ale from kansas.

    i loooove me some Stella but for a bbq you probably can go with the more pedestrian beers.

    I like dark beers. Shiner Bock is perhaps the best ever. Fat Tire and Blue Moon will suffice though.

    I love Blue Moon!  Yuengling is a good cheaper choice, but if you are on a budget, I don't think people would begrudge you choosing Bud Light or something similar.   (I'm not a beer snob at all lol)

    We're doing miller lite, budweiser, and yuengling as our beer choices. I feel like that covers pretty much everyone BUT beer snobs. They can be snobby elsewhere ;)

    Ok bees, what about this: buying 8 cases of all different kinds of beers? Would that be silly?

    8 cases may/may not be enough depending on how many guests will be drinking. Have you tried one of the calculators too see how much you need?

    Yes, not all 90 of our guests will be drinking, as we have about 15 children in attendance; and most of my family members don't drink at all.

    Budweiser! I hate "lite" drinks... they annoy me. But I know a lot of my friends would also like Yuengling (eh ok), Miller High Life, or Sam Adams anything.

    @sophie85: Why dont you just do 4 choices and buy 2 of each? I dont know if 8 would be enough though....how many do you think will drink and will they drink a few or a lot?

    From what I have calculated there will be 48 drinkers. Half of them friends who will definitely enjoy several beverages.

    If you are doing different choices I would add a dark like Guiness. I personaly only drink (when I can) Yuengling, Killian's, or Guiness. Although I love a true black and tan. Yum.

    @MissGreen: I think that's why everyone around me loves it. About two years ago it became available in GA and everyone went crazy. I thnk it's ok, but nothing to cry about :)

    @sophie85:

    Yea it's not sold in Illinois either. Would you be able to do a mass email to the few that are drinkers to see what they prefer since there isn't a huge number? FWIW Bud Light, Miller Light and Budweiser are the 3 main beers I see most at weddings in our circle. Michelob Ultra is gaining popularity.

    @kperry3:

    Eh to each their own I guess. We are excited for it to be here in October and I think it's worth it. My NC and Tennessee friends always bring us cases when they visit. Not everyone has a taste for lagers.

    We're buying cases as well and keeping it to bud light, miller light, o'douls and something else probably bud heavy.

    8 options may prove to be a little less cost effective because you can usually return unopened cases to the liquor store when you buy in bulk... if you have too much variety you may end up with too many mostly full cases at the end of the night that you can't return

    Sam Adams is our go-to crowd pleaser. The Summer Ale would work well for a BBQ. What about doing all local brews? I think it's awesome to support small businesses. We're offering beer pairings with our dinner, and we are definitely making sure to work in some good local stuff in addition to Mr. LK's beloved Guiness, Chimay, and Delerium (all imports).
