I am not a silhouette expert, but my advice is to try on as many different types as you can! I'd also have someone take pictures of you in each one as you can. I couldn't really figure out how I felt in a dress until I saw the picture. Also - I was shocked at what ended up looking good on me (vs. what I thought would). Bridal dresses seem to be different that regular dresses, so all you can do is try stuff on and see how you feel!
Have a great time shopping and congrats on heading towards your goal weight! You've got great curves, so definitely find something that shows them off!
I agree with the PP. Try on all different types! I tried on dresses I thought I would never like but they ended up actually being pretty nice. From there you will be able to determine which ones fit/look the best on you. Good luck finding your dress & your engagement photos are cute! =]
Neither am I but I see you in a mermaid/fit and flare, sweetheart neckline.... something vintage just by your beautiful looks and awesome curves!!! What type of wedding are you having?
I love your e-pictures!!!! I went to 3 places and only 1 of the ladies actually explained to me what she thought would fit best on my body. and that was the winner..!!! Dont be affraid to ask them to find a dress they think will look good on your figure as they do it all day. that way you can find the style at least and go from there!
OMG YAYY!! I cannot wait for you to go to Pronovias and see all those chiffon dresses, it wont be like that elie saab you love but I'm sure something will at least catch your eye in the moment. I def see you in something fitted.
If you know your measurements plug them in here and see what it tells you.
I used this website to give me a couple guidelines before i went out shopping for my first time. I think it gave me a VERY generalized idea as to what looks good one MOST body shapes.. BUT you need to remember not only that its about how u FEEL in it, but everyones body is diff and things you normally might not ever wear might look INCREDIBLE on you... And i love the pics of you and your fiance above. You guys are adorbs!
Definitely try a bunch on! I thought that I'd go with a-line, but trumpet ended up looking much better in the store. I love your figure in that bottom photo, you look like Christina Hendricks!
@oracle: Thanks for the tips! I am definitely going to be taking pics at David's, and ho0pefully pronovias is okay with it too :)
@MrsWilson2012: Thank you :) Do you think that I should also try on materials that I am not so fond of in theory, or should I just be open about silhouette?
@sooner365: Awww thank you! You are so sweet :) We are having an outdoor wedding, right before sunset. There will be a grass aisle leading up to a tiny gazebo, and the low sun will be behind the guests so as not to blind them hehe.
@live laugh love: Great tip! I definitely want to, but my hopes for David's are low - my MOH made the appointment and they told her the consultant might have two brides per slot! Hopefully it works out though. And thanks!
@MASPA: Hehe, I am SUPER excited too!!! I love their dresses! I am hoping for a miracle of having Elie Saab samples on serious sale, but I've seen things I love in all of the collections :) Were they okay with you taking pics?
@kim14410: Aww thanks! I am def going to try to go outside of my comfort zone now!
@carriemat: I am also thinking A-line, so your story helps me be brave about trying that silhouette too :) And thank you!!! Her figure is perfect to me, so that is a HUGE compliment :D
Definitely try a bunch of stuff on and see how you feel in it! I would not go by the 'what's best for x body type' guidelines, I'm a pear and it always suggests A-lines and anything that doesn't accentuate the hips. Those dresses just make me look huge, and I actually look much better in fitted dresses like trumpet and mermaid!
@sarahbabs: i bought the dress so they let me take pictures but I didnt ask to take for any other ones. But Ive seen bees post pictures from there so Im pretty sure you'll be ok.
eta: they also give you 12.5% off if you buy during the first appointment. i left and came back about a few hours later and they still honor it.
i found that if you get a good consultant, try on what they suggest... even if you hate the idea or hate it on the hanger...
my first pick dress is the Pronovia's Primor which i would have NEVER tried on, except the Pronovias store had me try on the Bengasi... i had said "NO ballgowns"... but I LOVE it....
Previously I had only tried on what was advised for my busty curvy shape... fit/flare, mermaid, dropped waist...
so try them all on, and PICK the brain of that consultant...it's their JOB and their profession to know :)
@Ms. Martian: I definitely will!
@towedding: Thanks for the advice :)
I am going to try on my first wedding dresses in mere hours! I am so excited I can hardly stand it :D
Any David's recs for me?
I'd think a sweetheart neckline would be SO gorgeous on you and i'd try a trumpet gown. :) Let us know what you choose!
@little_cricket: Thanks! I would have never gone for trumpet styles if not for you guys, so I appreciate the suggestion :) And I will definitely post pics tomorrow!
I would put you in an empire waist tafetta with lots of pettycoats! I totally see you in a vintage dress and shorter rather than longer! I can't wait to see what you pick!
@sarahbabs: definitely fit and flare or something very vintage inspired and brings attention to your amazing hour glass shape!
@sarahbabs: Try on a drop waist. You and I are very similar in shape, and I hesitated thinking that I was too big and too short in the torso area, and I loved how all of them looked. Good luck1
i think something with an umpire waist would be very slimming. But a natural waist a-line would be beautiful! try christos julianna! i love her capped sleeves
Dropped waist A-line with a corset. It will make your hourglass figure look amazing.
Thanks for all the feedback ladies! I definitely read it, even if my iphone wouldn't let me reply :(
I tried on my first batch of dress this weekend, and here's the thread with pics: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/first-dress-shopping-trip-pics-and-a-poll
I really appreciate all the help! The Bee is the best :D
@sarahbabs: you got an hour glass figure,,so you ae one of the lucky "full figure"(by the way you look slimmer then me)so you can pull off a marmaid..if you like,,and a full a line ,is best to all of the plus sizes!!also drop waist ,,because again u got small waist and nice round hips..im a rectangular shape so cannot wear much but an a-line with buil in corset..that gave me a waist!:).p.s i dont know ifu chose or not your dress ,..maybe i replied to late..dont kniow when u posted this..
@katiaitalia: Thank you for the response and the kind words! I actually did find my dress, thank goodness :) Here I am in the sample:
I'm really happy with my choice :)
@sarahbabs: aww. You've got one of those infectious smiles! Your whole face lights up :)
@ticatica: Awww, thank you hun! LOL, I was so happy in my dress that half of the pics my BFF took had my eyes closed hehe

I am going dress shopping for the first time next week, and I am SO excited! My first appointment is at David's, to get an idea of what works for me, and the second is Pronovias.
Of course, I have inspiration boards full of what I think I want, but between the Bee and SYTTD, I know that our own notions aren't always the winners. So I would absolutely love to hear your ideas of what silhouettes, necklines, and fabrics would work best on me, and pics of specific dress ideas would be a bonus :)
These two e-pics are my most recent full length shots.
This pic is a bit older, but is closer to my goal weight for the wedding.
Thank you so much for your opinions and suggestions ladies!
