I drink tap water almost exclusively, mostly because I’m a cheapskate.

I live in New England and I drink tap water at my home – I think it tastes fine! We also use a Brita filter. At work, we have a water cooler that I use.

@sweetchiquita12:  Our tap water comes from an aquifer and as a result it sometimes can smell like dirt or chlorine based on the season.  It is safe to drink but it tastes awful so I have a RO system in my home that I use for all of my drinking and cooking.

I drink tap when I’m at home, because we have really good water here.  I’ll usually keep a pitcher in the fridge so its cold, and in that case I can’t tell the difference to bottled.  When I was in college I used a brita filter because the straight tap water didn’t taste very good.

Reverse osmosis tap water at home, and brought along with me.

Reverse osmosis bottled water (Aquafina, Dasani) when necessary out and about, but I don’t like to contribute to the plastic garbage waste, and, I don’t like to drink out of plastic (even though bottled water bottles are made from a “good” plastic, polyethylene, it still leaches some contaminants), so I try to keep this to a minimum.

I voted tap but really we use a water cooler at work and the fridge filter/dispenser at home. I use a reuseable water bottle. It makes me cringe to see people use plastic water bottles unneccessarily.

I prefer tap water because it’s cheaper, and I was once told that in the US it’s actually more regulated than bottled water. But I do really like Smartwater if I happen to be buying bottled water for the convenience factor 🙂

Lots of bottled water is tap watern and I think in some cases tap is actually better for you. I had a friend in town who exclusively drank a purified tap water-bottled water & had empty bottles everywhere- it blew my mind.

The tap water here is gross and insanely chemicaled since it’s all Lake Michigan water. Blech.

We have a Brita pitcher at home. Waaay better than drinking tap or spending all that money on purified bottled water.

ETA: Yes, I’m a water snob. I don’t even like “spring” water in bottle form. It’s disgusting. Also, FI won’t drink the tap water here as it makes his throat feel funny, so getting him on board for filtered wasn’t hard.

@sweetchiquita12:  A lot of places the tap is better quality than bottled! I know Cleveland did tests on their tap vs Fiji water because Fiji put up a billboard saying “It says Fiji on it because it’s not bottled in Cleveland”.. The Cleveland tap was actually better water!

I buy bottled a lot, but it’s a BAD habit. I also have several water bottles that I try to fill up at home. We have a britta filter pitcher in the fridge, and also a bigger Pur filter. I just don’t like the way our tap tastes.

I drink tap water. I test the water in our city and for a lot of private wells. I know at least for my municipal water and throughout most states the standards they have to meet. Bottled water does not have to meet those standards. Doesn’t mean I won’t drink it, I will and sometimes do, but most of the time I drink from the tap. I do have a Brita filter though since there are a lot of minerals in our water here.

At my parents house I have to drink bottled water because their well has high levels of sulfates which have a laxative effect if you’re not used to it. Since I am not used to that and in general I’m fairly sensitive to sulfates (ie. too many eggs have the same effect) I have to drink bottled water there.

@4littlekitties:  It’s true that some bottled water is tap water… i.e. from a municipal water source. In fact, that’s the only kind of bottled water I drink. Aquafina and Dasani are the big ones.

The reason why these are better than the others (e.g., “spring water”) is because they are run through a 7-stage reverse osmosis system first (just like the one I have at home, but much bigger) meaning the water is very clean. Much cleaner than regular tap water.

Meanwhile the “spring water” is more like bog water (those “springs” are usually undergroud, despite the pretty waterfall drawing on the label) that hasn’t even really been cleaned… maybe run through a carbon filter and that’s all… or maybe not even that…. and may have more contaminants in it than water straight out of the tap without any filtration whatsoever.
