Top commando! That's so funny.
My dress has no boning and no detail. It almost hangs like a sheath or a slip dress, so I want to make sure I have good armor underneath!
You're getting married a week before me. :)
@eurekaanchovies: where is your dress from / can you post a picture? I'm trying to decide between a strapless A-line and a bateau neck A-line dress! (sorry, I don't mean to hijack your post...)
@okiram: Hey, no problem.
My dress is super simple. I posted about it here:
http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/how-to-dress-up-a-simple-dress
I haven't had any alterations done. I've got to get the straps taken up slightly because the neckline is a little loose, and I'll need it taken up a little at the bottom, too.
@eurekaanchovies: how beautiful! Thanks for the link. I'm trying on the bateau neck dress tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes.
How funny! I got my dress made at Aria, too. I live on the east coast, so I had to have them mail me a dress to try on. Good luck!
I'm afraid to explore their site. I got my dress in October and I don't want to see if they have any new styles that I like better!
That's what happened to me...I originally ordered their strapless A-line, and it's been sitting in my closet for a while, but I just saw their new designs a couple of weeks ago and succumbed to the temptation of trying on the new one. It arrives tomorrow! Thanks for the good luck wishes =)
Uh oh! That's partly why I don't really let myself look. I mean, for what I paid for the Aria dress, if I end up not using it, it's almost not a huge loss. But still...
Are they going to let you exchange the dress you bought for the new one? Or will you have to count it as a loss?
I doubt they'll let me exchange it - but it may be worth asking, I guess. Given the original price, it's not too awful. Also - even though it only took my first dress less than a month to arrive, they officially won't accept orders for weddings that only have 3 months to go, so unfortunately I'll have to pay the 30% rush order fee if I order the new dress. This may all be a moot point when I try on the dress later today (either I'll love it and pay the extra fees, or I won't like it and I'll be happy with my original dress)! I'll let you know how it goes.
I actually tried to exchange mine! They wouldn't let me do it without their evaluating the dress first, which I would have had to pay $15 to ship back, and then another $15 if they didn't give a refund. At this point, I'm very happy with my dress. But I was of course having second thoughts and lots of dress anxiety, given that their dresses, while lovely, aren't what people might be expecting when they think "wedding dress" since there are no real frills. And that's what I wanted, but when I got it I felt anxious about it. I finally got enough positive feedback (I'm so impressionable!) that I'm largely content with it at this point. I paid extra for the nice waist sash, and I'll dress up the dress with some big jewelry.
Do you have a picture of the dress you bought that you're comfortable sharing?
I know! It really isn't a stereotypical "wedding" dress - and I was worried, too. But, it was what made me happy. The new one won't have any lace or beading or ruching, either - and I think in the end, I will be more comfortable without it!
Thanks for the info about exchanging dresses! Depending on how I like the new dress, I'll be sure to give Aria a call and ask them about it.
Here's a picture of me in the original dress, with the veil and matching bolero - it hasn't been hemmed yet, AND I'm standing on a step stool...so you'll have to subtract about 8 inches to get the real picture. Sorry about the bad lighting. I'll be sure to post another picture tonight, of the boatneck dress.
I am wearing bright blue undies, a long line bra (kind of a smoother/Spanxish), and a crinoline. My dress is sort of full for an Aline though.
I got my crinoline and long-line on Ebay. Cheaper!
I'm wearing a felina longline and aline crinoline....and I'm trying with all my might to find these blue sexy little bride panties on ebay in my size..Victoria's Secret doesn't carry them anymore :-(
@okiram: I think your original dress is really beautiful! It's very classic and very elegant. I just love the simplicity of it. Can't wait to see what the other dress looks like and hear about how you like it.
@eurekaanchovies: Thanks! Alright, here is the picture of the new dress. I just quickly pinned it up, so it's a little too short, but I think you'll get the idea...what do you think?
@okiram: What a pretty dress! Again, very simple and classic.
Which one are you leaning toward?
I wore a long line bra, with straps (so comfortable all day having that extra support for my D-cup lovelies!) and a lacy pair of tangas. I'm so happy that I chose the long line bra becuase it kept me nipped in and looking smooth all day long. My spanx just can't do that for me :)
A word of caution. If you buy Spanx, be sure to wear them for a full day before the wedding to see how they fit. Some styles roll down, others don't. etc. etc.
@eurekaanchovies: thanks! I think I'm going to order the boatneck dress, but probably 1 size bigger and with an A-line skirt, not a full ball gown. We'll see how it goes! If I really don't like it, all I need for the other one is to have it hemmed, so hopefully that won't be too big of an ordeal. Thanks for your help (and sorry for taking over your thread!)!
I wore high waist nude spanx, with a long line bra (sewn into the dress) Worked just fine!
I'm hoping to find a longline bra and some blue panties, but haven't found either just yet.
@okiram: Good luck with your dress purchase! I'd love to know what you end up with. They're both great choices.
To everyone else: Thanks for everyone's input!

Hi, Bees.
My dress is silk shantung and it's a basic A-line with a bateau neck. Any suggestions on what to wear underneath? I'm definitely looking for something that is not strapless and that comes down to mid-thigh.
I was thinking of something along the lines of Spanx, but I'm certainly open to suggestions.
Thanks!
