Everything is in the typical order. But…

We’re having quilt squares for people to sign instead of a guest book. We’re having individual strawberry fruit tarts instead of cake. We’re attaching gift cards to the garter/bouquet. We’re sneaking in star trek voyeger’s theme song into our slide show. And there’s tons of DIY projects, like embroidered table numbers and homemade rose shaped butter mints. Details, details, details!

we are having an untraditional wedding song for the processional(not so unique anymore but not traditional)

after the ceremony, we are turning the outdoor space into a lounge area with firepits(and i’m thinking of adding a couple of s’more stations as well, haven’t decided 100%)

we also are doing a ton of DIY stuff.

Well, we aren’t having cocktail hour, so that part is out.

We aren’t going totally off the beaten path, but here are some things:

This one isn’t totally weird, but we’ve gotten some “feedback” on it, lol – we’re doing a First Look and doing most of our pics pre-ceremony.

We are walking down the aisle TOGETHER.<– This is probably the most untraditional.

We’re skipping the bouquet toss/garter toss/parent dances/dancing in general.

We’re having a heavy apps and dessert buffet, rather than a lunch or dinner.

We DIY’d a lot of it – our mantle decor, programs, table decor, grooms cake.

Oh. We’re playing VSQ’s versions of rock songs during the reception, lol. FI’s favorite band is AC/DC so yes, we slipped some VSQ AC/DC in there. He loves it.

We aren’t having flowers.

Our centerpieces are WAY not traditional, but I haven’t “revealed” my idea yet on the ‘Bee…wait until after Saturday and hopefully I’ll have pics of them working! Lol.

No dancing, no alchohol, no garter toss, no cocktail hour and we are having the reception before the wedding. We are also having a dessert reception after the wedding.

The main things are all pretty traditional for ours (ceremony/arrival/speeches/cake/first dance) but I’m trying to make the little things count – I’m using just babys breath and hydrangea as my flowers, and putting them all into little jars or vases with a friend, and tying burlap banners around the jars that have our initals on them, i’m having a ‘just married’ bunting cake topper, large bunting banners for the outside areas, a ‘wish jar’ instead of a guest book… i suppose that’s it. i’m trying to think of some more things.

We’re having leaves lines the aisle, like a canopy.

We’re having non-religious, totally unique, designed-ourselves ceremony.

And, now, we’re stealing Peony007’s idea and attaching a gift card to the bouquet!

Walking down the aisle to Radiohead on our string trio.

No tosses of any kind.

No huge ‘grand entrance’ for us or bridal party.

Butterfly exhibit is open during our cocktail hour for people to hang out with the bugs.

Private yoga with my bridesmaids before we get our hair done.

Ring warming.

I’m going to walk down the aisle, but then we’re turning to face our friends and family, with the officiant having his back to them.

Went down the aisle on my own.

All the ceremony music was instrumental versions of video game music. The people who didn’t know the songs couldn’t tell, the ones who knew got really happy and excited.

Had a ring warming ceremony before the processional (common on weddingbee, but none of our guests had seen one/heard of it before).

Fingerprint tree rather than a guestbook (ditto the aside comment above).

Did first look and bridal party photos before the ceremony (again with the guests at our wedding being very surprised).

That last bit allowed us to have the ceremony and reception in the same venue, one after the other.

Shoe game during the reception (is this common? I don’t know, but I loved ours). For some reason it was very important to FOB (our emcee) for me to play dumb/surprised by the announcement that we were going to do it.

I had never thought of having the reception before the wedding ceremony! I think that sounds really cool. One thing to think about is talking with your photographer about it before making your decision. The lighting at the time of day of your ceremony has such a big impact on the quality of your photos.
