I'm doing a lot of little things for them. I found really cool Target bags, I got black flip-flops at Target for $4.99 each and I'm going to put rhinestones on them, I got earrings and customized notepads and I'll probably do some more little things, including a gift certificate to something in their area. They're all traveling, otherwise I love the monogrammed bathrobe idea!

my favorite was a really cute black purse that could go along with the bridesmaid dress.  i have used it tons since then for more dressy occasions.  its very cute and trendy.  She also gave us chandelier earrings that went with the dress (and also go with lots of other clothes).

    FutureMrs.,

Helping out with the bridesmaid finances is probably the best gift you could ever give. All the other things that are given are fabulous and wonderful but at the end of the day, with the expenses of being a bridesmaid, it would be greatly appreciated. They may not need these nice gifts, but money to help out is always appreciated. You can either help pay for the dresses or whatever, or get them some Visa/AMEX giftcards.

no offense to JCM9608 but a money giftcard wouldn't be preferable to thoughtfulness and creative gifts....  i would rather you chip in on the dress, shoes, etc... if you go that route.

i personally am a jewelry & accessory designer so i'm spoiling my girls rotten here's the list so far:

a tote for the day of/ beach bag later (putting all goodies inside)

    custom gocco'd stationery

havaianas with swarovski crystals on the straps

    getting ready outfit

    pashminas

gold sand dollar necklace (wedding motif)

custom earrings and bracelet to coordinate with dresses

helped with cost of BM dresses

    mani & pedi's day before

honestly can't think of the best gift i've gotten as a BM

The best gift I got was a pashmina- an actual pashmina made in Nepal, not a cheapo shall (The real ones are very light, this weight, but much warmer than the cheapo ones).  Actual pashmina's are VERY expensive and I could never have afforded one.  The bride had them custom dyed to match the dresses (a wine color).  I got it in 2003 and I've worn it as a scarf every winter and as a shawl on numerous occasions.

I'm always a fan of jewelry (I still wear any jewelry I've received as a bridesmaid) and my best friend got us amazingly soft Nicole Miller bathrobes with our monograms when I was in her wedding.  She's a great bargain shopper and I know she got all the robes at Bed, Bath & Beyond and used those great 20% off coupons for them (you can use 10 coupons at a time.... they don't always tell you that at the store!).  It is the coziest robe ever

I'm chipping in for the bridesmaid dress, getting them manicures, and giving them a pashmina, custom stationery, and an individualized gift that I picked out just for them (some got jewelry, one got a clutch [not for the wedding, for fun], one got a pretty journal, one got an art piece, one got an apron -- all from Etsy!). JoieDeVie, getting ready outfits is a great idea! I might have to stick those in there too.

Oh, and when I was a bridesmaid (just once), the bride got me a purse that matched the dress and a necklace. She knew that I only wear the necklace that her brother gave me every day, so that was a little weird. And the purse matched the David's Bridal dress, so it's not like I would ever wear that again either. So I guess when picking out the gifts for my BMs, I tried to be a little more conscious of what everyone would like and actually use.

Wow, some of you are going all out!! We are paying for everything so we are on a pretty tight budget. I got my BMs each a different zippered makeup bag that reflects who they are and I am buying Mary Kay makeup for the wedding for them to put inside. I also put in each bag trazel size tubes of Satinhands and makeup remover. I got each one a burgundy gemstone bracelet for them to wear that I got off eBay. They are really cute and I think they will love their bag I got them.

I've been a BM 7 times, and the gifts that stand out are a travel perfume bottle, which I used a lot. I've also gotten a Coach coin purse, which I use all the time. Anything that is practical stands out.

For my own BMs, I'm giving them their dress and making them jewelry. I wish I could give more handmade stuff, but I'm up to my eyeballs in projects!

I have only been in 1 weddng (when i was much younger, my FI and I are actually the first of our college friends to get married so we're setting the bar!) and I received some terrible costume jewelry for the wedding day.  That was the only time I ever wore it.  I am putting together some pretty fancy gifts for my girls (well, I think they're fancy) so I thought I'd share that instead.  I have 6 BMs so it's a challenge to stay on budget, get nice things, and not break the bank.

I am doing a little gift bag for each girl to include the following:

    1. zippered pouches with little metal tags for zipper pulls that have each girls name engraved on it ($9 for pouch, $8 for tag, both from Etsy),
    2. personalized notecards ($9 from VistaPrint.com)
    3. LanoLip balm ($7 from lanolip.com)
    4. pearl bracelet ($12 on sale, Kohls)
    5. pearl drop earrings ($9, Etsy, discount for bulk order)
    6. Ms. Manicure nail set ($3 on sale, Kohls)

The total for each girl is about $57.

And in case anyone is looking for good groomsmen ideas, we're purchasing ties for all of them to wear on the wedding day, and will have each guy's monogram embroidered on the back of his tie.  The total cost is about $46 ($35 for the tie at mens Wearhouse and $11 for embroidery at Things Remembered).  The total for wedding party gifts for 12 people is going to be about $600, give or take.

The best BM gift I've ever gotten is a Coach handbag.  I'm giving my their dresses, custom-made necklaces & earrings (made by my very talented co-worker) and hand-knit shawls.

As a single chick, I've been in multiple weddings as everything from the flower girl to the personal attendant to the maid of honor... The gifts that I have most enjoyed have been gifts that were thoughtful.  In one wedding, I got a sterling necklace and earring set, and in another a simple yet beautiful little china vase.  I probably use the china vase most often, because it's just something I enjoy, and I know that the bride had me in mind when she bought it.  Your gifts sound fabulous...

Our wedding is in February in Colorado, so I'm getting the girls Uggs. We'll also secretely help out with the hotel bills, so I think that will be most appreciated. I can tell you one thing I didn't really like all that much--- jewelry for the wedding day that I would never wear again. I guess if you want your bridesmaids to look alike, that's an option though! Good luck!

I bought my girls pink Coach wristlets to match the pink bridesmaids dresses I made them wear so they could carry around their wedding day necessities with them. I also paid for their hair and makeup.

I tried really hard to find things that they'd use over and over again. I got them:

    * I bought their shoes for the wedding

    * I'm making rhinestone tanktops that say "Bridesmaid"

i'm giving my girls customized bags from 1154lill.com.  I picked the Mary purse which is reversible so one side will be all chocolate brown satin to match their dresses and the other side is a fabric that i asked them to choose.

As far as best gifts i've received, i would prob say personalized stationary bc i love that sort of thing and chandlier earrings..
