When FI proposed to me it was during a bowling night with his cousins and my friends. I went up to bowl and knocked down a total of 3 pins and when I turned around he was on one knee. My first thought was that he as playing a joke on me so I burst in in to laughter and blurted out:

    "Why would you do that?!?!"

What was your first response or reaction to your proposal?!?

"Are you being for real this time?"

I made him practice a lot before he decided he wanted to get married afterall.

It was a complete surprise...wasn't expecting a thing... so as he was down on one knee i said

    "what are you doing?!?!" then..

"get up off of the floor"

i guess that wasnt the response he wanted but I was in total shock

Probably something along the lines of "Are you f***ing kidding me?!? OMG, for real?"

Anybody watch The Office? He pulled a few of Jim's moves a lot. Like ... "MissGodiva, will you wait for me ..... while I tie my shoe?" << so not funny!

I seriously said, "you nerd!" not just once, not twice, but over and over again.

It is all I could get out of my mouth.

    "Are you serious?"

I'm willing to bet that's the most common response. Perhaps followed by "shut up," "oh my God," "holy shit," or something to that effect.

I kept it simple and went with, "Yes." Then we kissed and I smiled like an idiot for a very long time.

@Miss Godiva: Haha!! I thought for sure Mr. Diddles was gonna do something like that to me. Thanks fully he didn't. But he did propose with a Ring Pop first and THEN pulled out the shining glory from his pocket. lol

He proposed to me after only 8 months, and to be honest, I wasn't really expecting it.... sooooo.... I said, "No no no no no no...really?! Wait... really?!  Did you ask my Dad?!"

Poor guy started putting the ring away because he HADN'T asked my Dad and thought he ruined his chance.  Lucky for him, my Dad asked my Mom to marry him THREE TIMES, so Dad was more than understanding!  =)

    In a straight deadpan, "No."

I'd always joked that I was going to say no, and had joked so much about it that it was a kneejerk reaction.  Of course I quickly said "of course I will!"

FI wasn't too pleased and asked me later to make sure I didn't do that again...

    "Are you joking?!"

Common reaction, I see. I was a waiting bee for a while so I barely believed it was actually happening, FI on one knee, ring box in hand!

His first line after was "I want you to see it" (the ring... the box was closed the whole time) and so he now tells everyone "she said yes even without seeing the ring!" haha.

"well it's about time... 8 days with that ring and I under one roof felt like 2 years dude!"- and that was still a week early... I kept bugging him and was trapped in bad mood city lol.

I did the classic gasping hand over mouth and then the sobbing and then the YES! Through the sobbing, and then I started hugging and kissing him and he said "Wait!  I want to put the ring on your finger!"

    Then he dropped it.

    Outside, on a gazebo.

It did NOT fall into the water.  But it was a close call, and pretty hilarious afterwards.

Much like my fellow bees, I had a smile plastered on my face for the next few days.  My face physically hurt.

"Yes, now put it on already!"

He was on his knee, holding up the ring box, waiting for me to take out the ring and put it on myself. I may or may not have interrupted said proposal...

"Omg! Omg! Holy shit, baby you're down on one knee in 2 feet of snow!"

Then I proceeded to sceam yes about 30 times and then got down in the 2 feet of snow with him where we hugged and kissed for about 20 minutes!

I had to try several times to form something coherent, my mouth just quit working, I think I started wheezing. Finally I was able to squawk out "OK" and that was that. I had always pictured myself being so eloquent and giving a beautiful, heartfelt, romantic "Yes, I will marry you."  That was so NOT what happened. Still-it was a great moment.

First I cried, then I said yes, and then I actually said the following:

    "shoddy not planning the wedding"

    Uhhh yeah... I'm ridiculous.

My proposal was staged as a large family/friend picnic and another friends birthday, so I was totally surprised. I think I had my hand over my mouth, instantly crying, with a whole lot of looking around at everyone asking "Really? Really?! Are you kidding? If you're kidding, this is the meanest joke ever!" Hahah. Fiinally I got around to telling him yes and giving him smooches, after checking 400 times that this was FOR REAL.

Hahaha I love all of the responses ladies. Keep them coming!

But I also love how when you mentally recall your first responses a smile immediately comes across your face. At least it does for me. :o)
