What was the oddest thing at your wedding?

sherryberry That’s super weird. Fortunately (I’m assuming) it didn’t come up again, and Moe Moe is still safe with you?

The weirdest thing that happened at my wedding was both surprising and not surprising. My mom’s been married a couple of times, and I invited both my biological father (my mom’s second husband, didn’t meet him until I was 18 years old) and my legal father (married my mom when I was 6, adopted me when I was 8, raised me as his daughter). I sort of thought something weird would happen since we had, at the head table, my mom and her boyfriend, my dad and his new wife,  my biological father, (we’ll call him Joe) and his wife, and then DH and DH’s mother. Also, Joe can be really really strange. He’s really really extreme politically, has few manners, and loves to do big huge gestures to show how committed he is to his beliefs (usually it’s walking out on people or cutting them out of his life because they support something he doesn’t, or voted for the wrong person/policy, which he did with me for 3 years when I politically supported someone he didn’t). When I invited him, I told him ahead of time that we would want him to participate in a Chinese custom for us (it included all parents, so we invited him to join), but that my dad, who adopted and raised me, would walk me down the aisle/dance with me/etc.

Well, Joe did come to the wedding, participated in the Chinese ceremony, and sat through our Western ceremony. My dad came up and introduced himself to Joe, and Joe looked at him, and walked away with my dad’s hand still stuck out waiting for Joe to shake it. He said not one word at dinner, and before dinner was even over and toasts began, he and his wife said they needed to leave because they don’t drive at night (first I heard of this…also…they spend their lives roadtripping, so maybe that’s true but unlikely). He said goodbye to everyone at the head table except my dad and his wife.

I wasn’t really bothered, because I’m not super close to him, and it was sort of awkward anyway (i was dreading the father/daughter dance since I thought it would make Joe feel bad). But still…super weird. I suppose with a family this complicated, I should have expected worse?

@sherryberry:  The weirdest thing that happened at our wedding was surprising, but not at the same time.

DH’s aunt and her boyfriend of many years arrived super late (they walked in during the ceremony… which is surprising since it started half an hour late ^_^) and then, they left before dinner!

There has been some drama (which I can’t discuss for legal purposes) between his aunt and his mother (her sister) so that is why we are not surprised…

My sil (who is bat shit crazy) told my brother that our wedding was better than theirs. Even if it was true, who the hell would say that?

My 3-yr old ring barer poo’ed in his pants during the reception. He somehow found the washroom and attempted to clean the mess himself because he was afraid to tell his parents. Instead he forgot and was found playing with the water in the toilets instead!

@Araya:  I guess it’s better than them announcing that it wasn’t as good as theirs… 🙂

@PetalFace:  Aww poor thing!

I’d have to say the oddest thing that happened at our wedding was the fact that it was pouring everywhere else around our wedding location except our wedding location. I swear there must have been a shield barrier around our venue because if you drove about 5 minutes away it was raining there. I’d worked out for us though because we had an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour!

My dad looked really amazing during my ceremony. He scrubs up well! He totally matched the theme, even though we didn’t even give him colors he needed to wear. Anyway, RIGHT after the ceremony and photos he disappeared. On the way to the reception I see the elevator open and he had changed into island casual!! It was hysterical! Everyone else was dressed in cocktail attire (if thats what it is called) and here is my dad in a straw hat…

I;ve enclosed photos for impact.

Hm. I had an aunt show up in spandex, and someone stole all the bug spray, sun screen, and brand name allergy meds in our bathroom baskets. That was weird I guess.
