As I not so patiently await LO’s arrival, the signs of labor my doctor quizzes me on at every appt. these days keep going through my mind and have me curious…what was your first sign of labor with your first child? I don’t mean the half a dozen indicators that tell you you’re getting closer (baby dropping, burst of energy, Braxton-Hicks, etc.), I mean the “honey, it’s time” kind of signs.

@ShellyT: Well I had never had a Braxton Hicks or contractions until 24 hrs before I had her!
I woke up at 3 am with back pain that wrapped around to my belly and thought that was a braxton hick since I had never experienced one before.
I then woke up at 7 am and lost the mucus plug, ” bleeding”. This was my indicator of “O s*** I am having a baby SOON! “
The doctor told me it could be any time or still up til a week, so I went to work.
The “cramps” got worse traveling down my legs to the point of barely being able to stand. I went to the hospital around 4 pm and had her at 250 am 😀

My water had to break in order for me to know for sure. I’d been having contractions for weeks, I’d lost my mucus plug, and I’d been dilating/effacing for weeks before I went into active labor.

My water broke a few hours before I had contractions.

I was in obvious labor before my water broke. Since it was daytime, the OB had me go to her office, first. As soon as the nurse saw me, she was like “oh yah, you are in labor”. They still made me pee in a cup, which was quite the challenge at that point. TMI, but I lost the plug right after. Then, while waiting for the OB, my water broke in the exam room! She checked me, I was @ 5cm, and I walked to the hospital and was 6 when they checked me in. I think anyone who saw me would be able to tell, lol.

I said other because it was too early for Moose to come really; I mean 34 weeks isn’t the whole pregnancy. Anyway, I was having contractions that were 20 minutes apart, so we called the birthing center. I drank water and ate, like they said, and they went away. The next day, same thing, so I went to take a shower and there was my mucas plug. After that, we went to the birthing center.

cramps & contractions — I thought they were Braxton Hicks (started about 24hrs before delivery at 1am no less) but by 8am the next morning I could tell for certain that they were getting stronger/closer together.
we still waited a while before heading in to the hospital & I didn’t lose my mucus plug until late in the afternoon.

I woke up and my back hurt I moved a few times but couldn’t get comfortable then as soon as I found a good position a deep dull pain ripped through my back and stomach and I realized this might be time… I got another one and then another before I finally decided this was it and just tried to relax a few more hours (since it was 2 am) and I finally decided to wake everyone up at 8 (when the pain was so bad I could no longer walk), got to the hospital by 9am and he was born at 8:54pm… what a long day heheh
And they had to break my water, which they did about 4pm =)
