I took him out of town for the night, we went and stayed at a hotel in the city and I bought him tickets, and the drinks, to a concert he had been wanting to go to. I was so good about it too πŸ™‚ When I saw the tickets on sale I would say “Come on at least a better concert than that!” when he would talk about going to it. So when I presented him with the tickets, he was shocked πŸ˜€ we are both music lovers, he’s a drummer so of course he said it was his favorite present ever πŸ˜€

We were trying to save money for the wedding, so I gave him a coupon saying that I will go to five movies of his choice with him. (It’s not that I don’t usually like the same movies as him; it’s just that I find the whole process of going to the cinema kind of pointless and annoying.)

I honestly don’t remember what I got him for his last birthday, I think a new bible…maybe. Does your husband like concerts? You could get him tickets for a show.

His last birthday was right after we got engaged so I got him an iPad as a birthday/engagement present.

The year before that I gave him concert tickets.  πŸ™‚

A Fender acoustic/electric guitar. To be fair he bought me a pink glitter Daisy Rock guitar for my bday, so it was a little more than I’d do usually.

I made him dinner and baked him a chocolate cake, with chocolate icing and raspberry filling.  I even decorated it! (This was a bit of a big deal for me, because I’ve only ever baked about four cakes in my entire life!, lol)

I know this is a unique situation, because FI and I actually have THE SAME birthday (he is extactly one year older) but I don’t see why other couples can’t adopt this. We actually stopped giving each gifts a few years ago to eliminate the stress and pressure of it. We just save up the cash and then splurge on a REALLY fancy or unique meal. We both are foodies and love dining out and unique places and we make it really special and memorable. As for tangible gifts, well, if we find something we really want for each other, we’ll just get it and give it regardless of occasion.

Well, every year I bake him a cake of his choice (no icing, because he doesn’t like it). He loves it because he knows I made it just for him.

This year I’m getting him Rocksmith for his birthday. It’s a video game that you can hook up to an electric guitar and lets you play along so you can learn chords and songs. He loves music.

I would really get him something that’s relevant to his interested, something you know he’ll use (or wear). I think that really speaks volumes because it lets him know that you know what he likes. Like, my dad loves to ride his bike, so for Christmas we got him a bike mount that he can put his iPhone on to track his routes and his mileage.

A leather living room set (sofa, loveseat, chair, ottoman) which I got used (amazing condition) for $400 from craigslist :). Best present of our relationship, and I get to enjoy it too. But, it was like 3 months late because FI refuses to let me get him gifts before his bday because he doesnt want duplicate gifts and usually theres something that he didnt get that he wants, which I end up getting for him. This year he got everything he wanted, and I was planning on getting him a sofa but then I bought my wedding dress (also used and perfect) and I was broke. To be fair, he told me that I should buy the dress then and worry about his gift later, because I told him before I bought it that I couldn’t afford both at the same time (and I had plenty of time to buy a dress since we had 20 months to go at that point).
