Isn't funny how a song will pop into your head out of nowhere and take you back to another time?
So i was thinking about my prom and the song and the theme which were the same. So bees tell me when did you graduate, what was the theme and what was the song?
I'll go first.
1999, The theme and song were "These are the Times".
Anyone remember that old Dru Hill song?
Classic Hollywood and the song was "I'll be seeing you" by Billie Holiday
I actually don't remember having a special song. The theme for my junior prom (2005) was "Under the Stars" and my senior prom (2006) was "Arabian Nights". I still have one of the genie lamps filled with jewels from the tables somewhere. My now husband's prom theme (2006) was a luau type theme.
Oh geez, I went to 6 proms. Freshman year, 1; Sophomore year, 2; Junior year, 2; Senior year, 1. Years 1998-2001.
I can only remember 2 of the prom songs:
"Inside Out" by Eve 6 (1998 or 1999)
"Amazed" by Lonestar (2001)
We didnt have a theme but our song was "Here's to the Night" but Eve 6 in 2004
I didn't go to prom but I think it was Summer of 69 and my senior prom was 2004. Makes no sense to me. We didn't have a theme I just remember is was a 2 hour drive to a castle they rented out. The year before was on a docked cruise ship and I soooo wish I could have went to that one.
There was no theme for our prom or song, our schools proms were lame. I went to my SO prom but not my own (which was the year after), as it was just so boring. It was at a golf course, they spent most of the time with speeches and the DJ was some lady that played the worst songs. And this was a prom for 500 students, we also had to pay to go to our own prom, ahh it still bothers me 5 years later!
Our theme was "We Belong Together"..it was right after that Mariah Carey song came out. But every time I hear KC and Jo Jo's "All My Life", I think of prom
I don't remember prom, I was too busy getting high in the parking lot.
Our theme was "Under the Stars" in 2006. I honestly can't remember the song though.
@janie-janie: WIN!
@abbyful: Inside out is not a song I would have thought for a prom song but that's awesome!
@janie-janie: same!!
But honestly, I've got all of you beat. You'll never believe this...my prom song (no theme) was Darude--Sandstorm. Yes, the tehcno song circa 2004. Oh, and I went to a private Catholic school, so naturally all of the rich white kids doing lots of cocaine and smoking lots of pot voted and picked the most rave-like song we possibly could. People still laugh when I tell them that. FI thinks it's hilarious and, since he knew plenty of people at my HS, so fitting. Proud moments!
We didn't have a special song for either of my proms. The theme for my junior prom was Grecian (or something like that?) and senior prom was "Oriental Escape." I didn't pay much attention to the theme either year and I just had to think real hard to remember what the theme was from junior year, but senior year there was little hand fans at all the tables, which I loved because I was wearing a huge dress and it was hot as hell.
@akp0702: People at your high school did coke?? WOW! I thought my high school was bad!
@CarolinaCola: Like I said, privledged white kids with little else to do and parent's money. We were pretty ahead of other people's high schools when we start comparing them! (not that this is something i'm proud of)!!
@JessesGirl: 2005. Some people, myself included, got really into the theme when it came to dress which was really fun.
Oh wow, how old am I that I can't even remember!??! Senior prom was back in 1997 and I think our song was 'I Will Remember You' or something like that - Sarah McLachlan I think; no idea if we actually had a theme or not. I remember our senior dance (held in Dec, different from prom) was 'We Belong' by Pat Benatar, but other than that, I couldn't tell you a thing about either of those dances, lol.
We didn't have real themes at our proms. Our themes were basically the song title, so every year we got champagne glasses with the song title and year printed on them.
I went to 4 (yes, 4) proms (our high school was small so anyone grades 9-12 could go). The songs were Moonlight Serenade, Wonderful Tonight, Stand By Me, and I Will Remember You.
@reginaphalange: I have a champagne flute too and man is it ugly. LOL
BTW, your screenname is my hands down favorite!
I don't remember the theme! Too long ago! But our song was "In My Life" by the Beatles
@akp0702: I am DYING laughing at your Sandstorm prom. Not to mention that I haven't heard that song probably since 2004 but I am picturing going to a club my Freshman year of college and my roommate telling us all how she knows how to "trace" (the dance where your one hand follows the other). Too funny.
I don't know that my Junior Prom in 2002 had a theme, but our song was "Dreaming of You" by Selena....like it was 1994. Then our senior prom song was "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton. Not very original and not very memorable or sign of the times like.
@reginaphalange - That's how my high school was too. We didn't even have a 50-yard-line on our football field, 40 yards was the middle, and we played 6-man and 8-man football.
@MissPumpkinPie: "Under the Stars" was our theme too.
My prom song was Edwin McCain's "I Could Not Ask For More"
@bpcmarj: oh yes...there was much trance-ing. Also, much of the "juggling of the large fake orb between your palms" going on. Oohhh it's both hiarious and embarassing to think back on.
I can't, for the life of me, remember our prom song - I want to say it was by Lifehouse. But our homecoming theme was, not once, but twice, Welcome to the Jungle.
Mind you I was in high school in the late 1990s early 2000s. So yeah - rock on Axl!
I went to both my junior and senior proms. I can't remember the theme for my senior, but my junior was "Time Of My Life". I think my senior had something to do with nighttime or stars or something...I vaguely remember the prom favors being starry photo albums.
@abbyful: Ha! We didnt even have a football field. Or team.
But we did have an amazing cross country track... basically the entire town.
Mine was 2008, theme was "An Affair to remember", and the song was "Don't Stop believing"
FI's was 2009, I ahve no idea about the song, and the theme was 'Midnight in Venice" but it had NOTHING TO DO with Venice. No Venitian decor, no masques, so why choose that as a theme?
My Junior prom was "Midnight Masquerade" and we didn't have an official "song". But, I had the absolute time of my life and the song I remember them playing at the end of the night was, "I will remember you" by Sarah Maclachlan.
My Senior prom was "A night on the red carpet" and once again, there was no designated song. But, uh, the song that goes "Booty, booty, booty, booty rockin' everywhere..." was popular and that was a song they played, lol!
Mine was 2001 and we had an enchanted forest theme. Our voted on song was "paradise city" by guns and roses but the parent advisory committee vetoed it as it wasn't "positive" enough. So they ended up playing "its my life" by Bon jovi.
2004...can't remember the theme but the song was "Wonderful Tonight". Our junior prom the year prior didn't have a theme per se but it was held at the state aquarium so I'm thinking 'under the sea' lol?
We didn't have a theme or a song. However, we DID have a really crappy DJ who played "Beep" by the Pussycat Dolls twice, so every time I hear that song, I remember my prom lol.
I'm not even that old and I can't remember! LOL. Ours were Jr. Sr. proms, but you could bring a date from HS if you had a bf/gf that was a Fr/So. So I went in 2003, 2004, 2005. Even though I don't remember anything about mine, my FAVORITE is the 'Grand March' (do other schools do this?) where tickets are sold and the parents/teachers/townspeople can come and see all the couples parade through the decorations (in the gym, 'cause we're small-town classy) as they and their date are announced.
I went to a friend's Grand March where the boys voted for 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' as the opening song. However, thanks to a CD glitch, the song played OVER AND OVER for an entire hour. It was HILARIOUS, and all the girls were uuuuber pissed, and the parents weren't thrilled with all the touching yoooooou, touching meeeeee. LOL. Boys won that one big time.
@NDBee: Bahahahahahahaha touching yoooooou, touching meeeeee! I can't believe it played for an hour.....that's amazing!
