I’m just curious what your level of acceptability is with swearing? Do you swear a lot, none, or a little? What words stand out to you as offensive no matter what the context? I’m just curious how many swearing sailors we have around here.

Swearing is totally fine with me. Racial slurs, gay, and fag are not. Also, I don’t find ‘cunt’ offensive (probably because I only knew it as a swear word before I found out the actual meaning) but I know a lot of people do.

You should probably add the word ‘retard.’ I’m not offended by that word but I know others who might be, so I try not to use that word.

@Gingersnap: yeah I swear a lot myself but I would never use the word gay unless referring to someone’s homosexuality only and I don’t use fag or racial slurs. I feel like those are over the top for me. Cunt does seem a swear word to me and I actually did a poem about it and neutralizing it’s affect. People, in my opinion, give it too much power.

I swear.. mostly just the F bomb though.. racial slurs, fag, and gay are never ok to use as insults in my book.

hahaha I have the mouth of a sailor and I love it… it helps me get my point across quickly.

@Gingersnap: I’m with you. The racial and homosexual slurs are absolutely offensive to me. I get extremely angry with Fiance or anyone who uses them. (should note, that with Fiance this rarely happens). With cunt, it’s all about context. My friends used to joke around about it, but if it’s used in a vicious tone, then it is unacceptable to me.
Otherwise….I swear like a sailor.

@ttn133:I tried to add it but there wasn’t enough spaces to do so. 🙁

I didn’t say gay because I don’t ever use it in a non sexuality term. I don’t necessarily find normal cursing offensive, as much as I find it completely unnecessary in most situations.

I am an absolute sailor. The only people who can compare are my Dad, my brother, and some guy my fiance used to live with in Colorado who they called Vile Kyle.
I think a lot of it comes down to context, though. I am fine with words like bitch, cunt, whatever… but when they’re used as demeaning towards women, I get really pissed off. I am also really, really bothered by people using “gay” as a perjorative. It’s fine for something to be gay if it’s, you know, actually homosexual in nature. But if you’re calling your mom gay because she won’t give you a ride? Totally not cool. Same with vagina. I mean, it’s cool to say that if you’re talking about your twat, but if you’re talking about someone being a vagina for not going to the movies with you? Not on.
Racial slurs are never cool, though, nor is body shaming language. Seriously, if I hear that shit around me, someone is going to get subjected to a vile, vile tirade.

@Gingersnap: exactly this
I actually like the word cunt. Is that bad? LOL

I think “fag” is offensive and racial slurs. I don’t think cunt is offensive… Vagina Monologues anyone? 🙂
I swear pretty often, but I’m good about not doing it in front of my grandparents or in front of children. My brother is a marine and curses constantly, it drives me crazy.

Swearing doesn’t bother me.
I don’t like racial and sexual-orientation slurs.
