one of my husband’s closest friend organized an event in honor of a close friend of both of them (and the whole group) that died last year. it’s actually the second year in a row that they plan and do this: a boat day.
he organized everything on a facebook event, got rsvps (not only via facebook –he confirmed on the phone with everyone) and it came out to be $35 a person.
so the boat day comes and 4 people never showed up, leaving this friend out of $140 (he had to pay in advance)
what do you think is the best course of action in this situation? The options being:
1) My husband posts on the Facebook page asking everybody that did go to pitch in to cover the 140. It’s probably about $10 a person, but we’ll probably not get everyone to pay.
2) My husband posts on the Facebook page asking the four people that didn’t show up (no calling names) to pay the friend. If they don’t, maybe people will see it and pitch in anyway
3) My husband and I cover part of the 140. We know that we don’t HAVE to, but it is not fair for one person to carry the weight just because he organized. Maybe there could also be a facebook post saying that we’ll cover some and anybody else that’s willing to contribute please do
