Fi called me all excited because he heard 'the perfect song for our first dance' on the radio.

    What was the song.....

Say Hey - Michael Franti and Spearhead

If it was up to your future hubby, what would your first dance song be?

Oh, he'd want to dance to November Rain or some equally inappropriate Metallica song...!

Mine suggested that we get married in the winter and have our song be White Wedding by Billy Idol. Sigh.

We actually came to the same conclusion at almost the same time- "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas.

My FI would choose our song - which he chose in the first place - So far away by Staind and it is going to be our first dance song :-)

FI told his family our first dance song was "Afternoon Delight".  Obviously he was kidding, but I almost choked when he said that.

    The Anchorman version:

    And the original version:

@ gidgett - i HEART that song to the max!  I suggested it to my dad for the father/daughter, but he is still deciding.

if it were up to FI, it'd probably be something by Shiny Toy Guns.

If it was up to him, we'd probably dance to Thunderstruck.

@EAQ: my FI has a thing for the Eye of the Tiger too.  Must be a guy thing.

someone tell me what it is with eye of the tiger PLEASE!!! as if that song isn't annoying enough, I have to hear it as his ring tone alllll the time. Anyway, I'm pretty sure my FI would pick anything from tom petty and the heartbreakers...

He wanted -- I joke you not -- "I hope you dance."  Which is not a bad song ... but not in any way a good first dance between husband and wife song.  Plus, it came out the year I graduated HS and it got way WAY overplayed.

FI has really bad taste sometimes, unforch.

My FI is "musically challenged". He is the guy who doesn't have a favorite band, doesn't remember the names of songs or artists he likes, or care, for that matter. Luckily he has me to keep him musically informed. But this sucks for choosing a first dance song! We don't have a "song" that is really significant to us. So I decided to just choose a song that is signficant for me and how I feel about him. He says he will just flow with it. He is just not into that sort of thing.

@honeybun: My FI also loves techno! I enjoy a good techno song, but this is not the kind of music I really had planned for my wedding.

    Lol, this is great.

But I have to say, FI and I are on the same page with this one, Tiny Dancer became our song because we both started singing it unabashedly at the top of our lungs when it came on the radio one night when we were 16 or 17 driving under the stars.

He painstakeingly made a playlist for the night he proposed.  He timed it perfectly so that SInatra's "Let's Fall in Love" was playing when he popped the question.  We're dancing to that.

Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" - he found a cover of it by Tori Amos that's pretty cool and while the chorus is obviously very wedding appropriate, I vetoed it upon hearing the line "vows are spoken to be broken" - um, NO!

He also wanted Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" in the ceremony but then we listened to it properly and it's totally a funeral song. Sigh. I'm always happy when he even THINKS about the wedding and bounces into my room saying "I just heard the best song for the wedding!" but I'm starting to wonder if he ever listens to anything :)
