Not a problem I thought I would ever have… A great friend lent us $5,000 toward closing costs on some property we are selling, to be repaid once the deal was closed. That was earlier this year. In her congratulations card for our wedding she wrote ‘consider the earlier loan a wedding present’. OMG.
I cant accept that much of a gift. What would you do? How do I say ‘thank you so much but I cant accept that’ without seeming ungrateful?

Holy Camoley! That’s amazing! Cook her up a fantastic dinner with all her faves and fave drinks and maybe a little spa gift certificate or something??
Accept the gift, though. Something similar happened with us. It was 500 not 5K but I know the wonderful lady would have been hurt if we refused tthe gift.

@retreadbride: Perhaps and amazing thank you gift so you don’t seem ungrateful. I would get them a vacation. It doesn’t have to be for the full amount, but maybe half or so. Then you have given something amazing back and everyone can feel good.

Oh my, how wonderful! Accept it with your warmest thanks–then give them a fab thank-you return gift, like PPs said a dinner/spa or trip, something that you know they would love.
