Ok I just got engaged!!! on the 30th OMG

I'm still in shock, anyway. The SO ordered the ring, its utterly gorgeous. But it arrived with the wrong cut of stone. He ordered cushion, we got round.

I never wanted a round stone, I always wanted cushion, the SO knew this, and thats what he bought, the paper work that came with the ring even says cushion, but the stone is round.

We emailed the company, they said they would fix it, but we have to send the ring back to them...=[

I don't want to part with it even if it is the wrong stone....but I never wanted a round stone. It's beautiful but not what I or my SO wanted.

The company still hasn't responded to my question of how long it is going to take them to get the ring back to us....

I'm torn, should I just keep the round stone, I don't think I want to...but I don't want to part with my ring for more than a few days...=[

    sigh..

    what would you do?

This is going to be the ring you wear forever, it should be the one you want. You can deal without your ring for awhile, it won't mean you're any less engaged.

Supposedly, you are going to be wearing this ring for the rest of your life.  I think it is definitely worth it to wait, even if it takes months.

Yeah this is your ring for life make sure it's what you want! PLUS if they mixed up the cut how do you know all the other specs are correct?  I would definately send it back just to make sure you got the correct diamond that he paid for.

I would send it back. He paid for the cushion cut stone, so you should get the cushion cut stone.

Did you get the right GIA certificate for the cushion cut stone? Or did they send the GIA for the round?

If you like the ring as is I would keep it. Round cut stones sparkle more and are the "perfect" cut. I actually always wanted a cushion cut but my DH wanted the "perfect" cut so he got me round and I do love how much my ring sparkles.

I would send it back.  Even if they have to keep it for weeks.  You want the stone your FI and you chose, not the wrong one.  I had a problem with one of my baguettes, and I was SO disappointed that the jeweler had to send my ring back to NY to the designer, and they had it for like six weeks. They even had my ring over the Christmas holidays the year I was engaged. I was so disppointed to have to travel to another state to visit all of my family WITHOUT my actual ring (I wore a CZ stand-in.)  However, you will be much happier to get your ring back the way that you want it. You may have to live without it for a number of weeks, but that is much better than having to stare at a stone you didn't want and don't like for the rest of your life.

Send that baby back! There is no way I'd settle for a different cut just so I could have a ring on my finger.

Even if it takes a few week to get it fixed, you'll be wearing this ring for the rest of your life! I'd get it fixed.

Deffo send it back. If you want cushion, you're always goingto think of that so I wouldn't hesitate in getting the one you want.

Send it back!  Grab a cheapo ring from walmart if you need to have a ring on your finger for the next few weeks.  Good luck!

@ames12708: "SO" is "significant other" you can call him that if you want. it means just about anything, and is gender neutral.

anyway, my two cents: return the ring! also insist that they reimburse you for return shipping (you should get that sucker insured which costs extra), AND that they should pay for overnight shipping of your cushion cut ring at their own expense.

if they don't comply, threaten to take your business elsewhere. this is their mistake.

at least, that's what I would do :)

just an echo of what as allready been said, but I would send it back, you don't know if the stone in your ring is the same quality of the one he paid for either, or the same size or carat etc. It might be something that they can even give you a discount on ordering a band becuase of the mistake. just a thought

I had to send mine back twice.  Once because it was a modern cushion, not antique, and a second time because the stone was mounted crookedly.  I has no ring for over 2 months, and was extra peeved because it's a designer ring from a high-end jewelry store, and I expected much better service than that. In the end, you have to be able to look down at your ring and be happy, so buy a cheap stand in (it really really helps!) and send it back.

    @janie-janie:  Agree 100%.

It shouldn't take them very long to swap out a stone, even if they have to replace the head and everything.  When I had my widow's ring made (new setting, swapping stones, sizing down a size and a half) they had it finished in an HOUR.  This should be a priority for them, and should be handled they day it is received.  Tell them you're sending it priority, and you insist they overnight it back to you.  Theoretically, it should be on  your finger CORRECT in under a week.  If it's a custom job that requires more work, it will take longer but it's still doable.  You're wearing it forever, don't take what you didn't order.

I wouldn't send it back until I know how long it would take for it to be returned...Is the stire that you orded it from near by? If so call and see if you could have it replaced before you send it back....Also do a customer review/rating on the site to see if other ppl experienced the same thing as you.

I'd send it back.  You don't have the stone that your SO bought and paid for.  Plus, you prefer the cushion cut (which is what he bought).

    Make them fix their mistake.

Send it back.  It isn't what he ordered and isn't what you want.  On the plus side, maybe they can give a discount for wedding bands because of their mistake.

I would go to a Wal*Mart or other discount store and pick up a cheap fill in ring while it is being taken care of.

In the end, you will be wearing this ring for a looooong time, a couple weeks without it to make it perfect sounds like a good idea to me!

Send it back! You didn't get what you paid for. I totally understand how it sucks to be without one though -- in the first month I got my ring, I had to get it sized up not once, but twice. So I had my ring for 3 days, sent it out, got it back for less than a day, and it was sent out again. Annoying, but now it is exactly right!

I say send it back. I would want to know how long it will take - and get that on paper (either email or have them write it down). This is the ring you wear forever, so go with the cut you (and your FI) wanted. I would also point out to them that THEY screwed up. I totally understand wanting your ring now - it took over 6 weeks for my ring to come in and I was getting so impatient!

I had to send my ring back, they sent it in the wrong size. Since DH ordered it online, the local store (same company) wouldn't resize it without charging. So we had to return it for a refund & then re-order it... but my ring went on sale in that time so we got it for about 1/3 less :). I missed my e-ring then (wore my promise ring instead), but now I don't even remember if I waited a few days or a few weeks to get my new ring lol.

So, time may seem slow now, but after you get your new/ correct ring it won't feel that bad & you'll have the ring that you wanted & it'll be worth the wait :).

well, first of all, congrats!!!! i agree with pp, you should definitely send it back!!! get the one that you really want. a few days of not having the ring on your finger won't make a huge difference in the long haul.

Chiming in to agree with everyone. Send it back. A couple of days to fix is way better than staring at the wrong cut of a stone for the rest of your life. I know it's hard to part with your ring [I become anxious for that short time I'm parted from mine when I get mine professionally cleaned =)], but when you get it back, it will be well worth it. You don't want anything to detract from all the lovely future stares you will be giving it.
