So I had my bridal shower this past weekend, it was a blast!  Except my aunt gave me a gift that I really have no use for.  It's not off my registry, and she was acting super weird about it.  She kept saying things like, "I don't need a Thank you card."  "Try to act excited for my gift", etc.  So I was a little concerned, then when I opened the gift, I understood why.  She got me an Egg Genie.  For those of you who don't know what that is, here's the website:  www.buyegggenie.com.  I have no use for this gift, also a gift reciept wasn't given.  So what would you do with it?

what a random gift.  If you have no use for it, it is the holiday season... maybe someone could use it.  I'd give it to the salvation army or goodwill.

Random.  I would see if someone might need it for the holidays or something.  I had some extra weird stuff a few years ago before the holidays, I posted on CraigsList and someone picked it up in like an hour.  Guess someone had a use for it!

oooh did she also give you the freebie Bacon Wave and Chop Genie?

I'm a sucker for infomercial stuff, but never actually buy any of it.

That is really random. Though, I make deviled eggs all the time for parties and stuff...so I might actually use it. Are you a big salad eater? You could make hard boiled eggs and put them in your salads. LOL...sorry, I'm trying to think of good uses for it. If not, pick the person who does bring deviled eggs to every party and regift it to them!

HAHA - I could TOTALLY use something like that. Deviled eggs, hardboiled eggs for my salad, egg salad ... the possibilities are endless!

If you don't think you'll use it, I'd say you might as well donate it.  I don't generally regift, so that might be the best route.

I do make hard boiled eggs a lot, but the thing only holds like 5 or 6 eggs.  I usually make a dozen at a time.  So I would have to make two batches....?  I don't know, the other thing is that we live in a small condo, and cupboard space has a pretty high value, so I feel like if I can make hard boiled eggs another way, why take up the space in the cupboard for an appliance that ONLY does that?

On a slightly different note, how great would it be to set up a gift trade board? hcritton suggested a trade and it seems like everyone gets something they don't want and can't/won't return it.

To answer your question, I thought about Easter eggs but if you don't have the space for it it does not make sense to keep it.

Oh man I actually registered for this and was so happy that someone got it!  I love this thing!  But then again, I eat a lot of eggs!  Can you just return it?  If it is unopened, most places will take it back even if you don't have a receipt.  They will give you in-store credit and you can get something you really want.

Sounds like she was regifting! No gift receipt + weird guilty behavior = you just got a regift! She might have been thinking of the fact that you make hard-boiled eggs a lot?

Anyway, no shame in regifting or donating... when I'm giving away an appliance, I like to ask friends if they want it, and then donate it if no one does. (I have some experience at this after my own shower... we got like 5 non-registry appliances, of which we wanted 1!)

Sell it on ebay or something. She was probably asking you to not send a thank you because maybe its a regift and she felt a little guilty?

I'd love an egg genie, but if you really don't need it, just try to sell it!

hellohellohello has a good point, if it's unopened you could return it somewhere for maybe instore credit or a gift card.

I have no idea where it came from!  I would feel weird walking into a random store and trying to return it.... My FH thinks she was drunk and watching info-mercials and ordered it.  Then when she got it when she was sober, she didn't know what to do with it!  Not sure if that's true or not....  I think maybe I will just donate it.  Unless the gift trade board opens up.  Then I would def put it on there!  Or if someone really wants it, pm me!

If you make hard-boiled eggs a lot, I say at least give it a try.  My mom has one (not this brand), and we used it all the time when I was a kid for egg salad.  It's foolproof.  You can also use it to make steamed veggies, when all the other burners on the stove are full.  Ours wasn't very big, so we just stacked it inside a casserole dish or mixing bowl.

I like how all the infomercials make everyday tasks sound so difficult and fraught with danger.

Now you don't have to mess with those HEAVY DANGEROUS DEADLY POTS OF BOILING WATER, otb.  Your aunt probably just saved your life, or at least saved you from some third-degree burns.  Ha!

@jhphi - LOL!  Maybe she did!  Infomercials do always make easy things sound super difficult.  My FH said that if I wanted to keep it, then I had to make a meal with it every week until we found one we liked enough.  Haha.... we'll see.  Maybe I will try it out and then decide.

Whatever happened to the home for misfit gifts that we were trying to get going?  This would be a perfect item to stick there...

Ah hah! They totally sell this there! If all else fails, return it here for store credit:

LOL - ok I had no idea what it was, so when I went to open the website (at work) the volume was up and the announcer was like "Hard Boiled Eggs!..." I clicked the X at the top as fast as I could :)

I'd give it to SA or Goodwill probably

I just laughed, really really loud.

I too think you were re-gifted. Return it to Bed Bath and Beyond and buy a... Slap Chop. Or those Potato Gloves. Or that thing that makes tiny slider burgers. :)

I could possibly re-gift it, but the only white elephant party we have is on my mom's side of the family, and some of those people were there when I got the gift, so they would all totally know!  How t*cky would they think me! Yikes!

It's TOTALLY re-gifted. I say, don't keep it if you're never going to use it... unless, one day you will think "man, I wish I had that egg geinie to make me some hard boiled eggs!" hahahahaha.

my vote is to donate it.

BUT, just to show your appreciation and be polite, maybe take a photo of you fake-using it and show it to her "unintentionally".

I hate to call your Aunt out like that but I'm with the bees who said it already - she totally regifted it to you. Try to bring it back to BB&B, they'll prob take it since your registry's obviously had a lot of activity lately with the shower. But if they don't I say ebay or donate.

I hate to be the dunce here, but um... what's a White Elephant party?

I would take it to salvation army.
