The venue where we are getting married hosts a fabulous Sunday brunch and since we are getting married on a Sunday we've decided to opt for a brunch reception.  My initial train of thought was to host red and white wines and a signature champagne cocktail.  My fiance thinks it will be too early in the day to warrant any wine consumption but I think it'd be nice to offer it to our guests.  This is the timeline of our wedding:

11:00 guests arrive--muffins with tea and coffee

    11:30-noon  Ceremony

    noon - 1 cocktail hour

    1-3 brunch reception

Would you drink wine during this time of day?  I'm at a bit of a lost with what hors d'oeuvres to serve during cocktail hour--any suggestions?

Throwing in some pictures of the venue just for fun Laughing

Well I am not big into wine (just for special occasions, I guess, and a wedding definitely is one, lol) but I really do love mimosas and fruity champagne cocktails!

I would be drinking mimosas at brunch!  I don't think wine at brunch sounds good.

I would but then again, I love wine.  :-)  Champagne cocktails are good too though.  I think you'll be fine no matter what you choose.  (By the way, I think your wedding sounds AMAZING and would love to be invited to something like that.  Sunday brunches are SO delicious!)

As far as hors d'oeuvres go, I'll bet your venue will have some fantastic suggestions as well as have an idea of what people tend to go for during that time of day.

I love wine, but I don't think I would drink it at Sunday brunch. If I were to drink at all, I would have some kind of champagne cocktail. You could also do screwdrivers (OJ and vodka). Your venue is so cute!

we did a brunch reception and offered champagne cocktails (mimosas), wine, and beer.  people drank both champagne and wine, but not so much the beer.  i would suggest getting extra champagne.  we got way more than we thought we needed and only had 2 bottles left over.

I would drink either white wine (most likely since this is all I drink) or some type of champagne cocktail.

one of my girlfriends got married this summer and they had a morning ceremony and brunch reception.  They had champagne with different juices: orange, peach and grapefruit and it was great.  Also, they had bloody marys!

So, that's definitely my recommendation- mimosas, bloodys, juices & coffee!

I'd definitely only be likely to drink a white wine at that time - but it's late enough in the day to have a glass or two for sure. I will admit - I do love Champagne Cocktails, though!

I think for brunch you can provide mimosas/champagne and possibly bloody marys and skip the wine. Some people *might* drink it if you have it available, but I think no one will miss it if you don't!

As for what to serve during the coctail hour... how about cocktails? ;) I'm not sure you actually need a cocktail hour for a brunch reception. I might put out some fresh berries/fruits and crackers/cheese if you need to put out anything at all, but I'd talk to the caterer about their suggestions.

<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: Verdana;">I think champagne cocktails are great but I guarantee that people will also drink the wine.  I've planned and been to several afternoon parties (bridal showers, wedding showers, birthday parties) that started at 1:00 PM and people drank plenty of wine. For the cocktail hour, you could keep it light - serving vegetable crudités, fresh fruit skewers & artisan cheese with crackers.

I would def offer wine if you want to, esp in the bay area. It seems like your reception will be in the early afternoon rather than during "breakfast" time, so it is definitely appropriate to drink wine.  I know I've shared quite a few bottles with friends during weekend lunches in SF!

Um just my thought here but 1-3 PM is not exactly brunch anymore. I would definitely have the wine and cocktails because you are going to have people that drink both.

Most brunch foods seem to go better with white wine, if wine at all. Maybe you could do a couple of champagne things and have a white wine offered as well for those who might want it?  Personally, I'd drink the cocktails, but some people (guys?) might find that a bit too much.

I voted for both because I'm never one to turn down a glass a wine.  That being said, mimosas at brunch are perfect, and if that was the only option, I'd be perfectly happy.  Can you perhaps find an alcohol vendor that will accept any extra liquor you have left over at the end of the reception?  That way you can get champagne and wine to cover your bases, but get rid of any extra.

Here's what I think of when I think of brunch:

    bloody mary's.

Bellini's. (but save the actual glass of champagne for the toast)

Having a coffee bar for those who wake up to coffee.

Iced Tea and or hot tea assortment (different kinds of bags and use the sugared swizzle sticks b/c they're so cute).

assortment of fresh sqeezed juices (in case there are pregnant women attending who can't have caffeine or alcohol or kids).

All and any of these would make me just be the happiest guest at any brunch reception (or brunch) for that matter!  If in doubt, call the nicest resort you can think of and ask what they have at their brunches for beverages.

Bloody Marys, Bellinis, and Mimosas are traditional breakfast drinks as far as alcohol is concerned, but since you are in the SF area, there might be people who are accustomed to having wine at lunch. I'd offer less wine and more of the other drinks, but keep a few bottles on hand for people who want it.

Personally, the thought of wine that early makes me want to die, but then again, I don't drink wine anymore after.. shall we say one bad night. Money mouth

Forgot to add mimosas are good.

You could in fact, do a unique "customized cocktail" version of both the bellini and the mimosa for your signature drink!

Just a thought.  You could have the "Blushing Bellini"(add a little more cassis in it and a raspberry)  and maybe the "Marry Me Mimosa" or something like that!

I voted other just because neither of us know anyone who drinks alcohol of any kind that early in the day. Then again, everyone is different in what they are used to. That said, I would have espresso, hot cocoa, tea, sodas, lemonades, etc.

I was going to say champagne cocktails until I saw that your time is between 1 and 3 (which is lunch time in my corner of the world)! Considering this is lunch time I think people will drink wine (probably more white than red) as well as champagne cocktails. This could perhaps be because I'm an Aussie and you often see people drinking by noon (or earlier). Plenty of people (mostly men probably) would drink beer at that time of day as well (I'm not sure if you're planning on beer or not).

I'm going to second bellenga - I think a wide variety of non-alcoholic options plus a couple (or few) mixed options would be fine. Personally I'd stick to mimosas and bloody marys as far as alcohol goes - everyone knows them, they're hard to mess up and delicious.

Mimosas! You could make it more updated and unique/personalized by adding berries or other fruit on the rim of your glasses. You could also use those flavoring syrups to add color and let everyone choose for themselves what they want!

Mimosas for sure, but it depends on the person/group of people. My cousin had a brunch reception (cash bar, though!) and most people got wine. Not sure if that was just because it was cheaper, though?
