Maggie Sottero makes a light gold dress that is GORGEOUS. A friend of mine wore it and i swas kinda like "really, gold?" and I was wowed. Is this too much for you? It depends how "bridal" you want to go.

I don't knwo if i'd want to spend $800 on a dress if i was going with a simpler dress like this. What about any of the off the rack Banana Republic, J Crew gowns, etc? Maybe a "destination" dress would be better? Like a tea length?
Or this: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=d&style=JD1214 I love this one. That back is sexy!
Little fancier: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=d&pageSize=96&style=SD5211
http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=d&pageSize=96&style=AD1006 Train optional I think
Hope that helps! If you can give us more direction we might be able to provide more ideas
Your first selection is gorgeous! I love that it comes in gold. And I love corset backs.
The 2nd is stunning as well but with that low back I'd be extremely concerned about "the girls" as I'm well, we'll say blessed, up top! My guy loves sweetheart necklines for the show-off factor but I need the design to be amenable to some, ummm, strategic support.
Your third choice is lovely as well but is just not quite me. I'm trying to figure out how to explain why... I guess it's just all the feminine details at once - chiffon, cascade, beading, flower, train. Which I know sounds odd as I love lace!
And wow I wish I were into ruffles/cascades because your fourth pick is sooo pretty. Unfortunately they're just outside of my personal comfort zone.
I so appreciate your suggestions!
If you can afford it, Martin McCrea makes some very unusual gowns and will usually dye them to any color you want, http://martinmccrea.com
You might want do do a search for vintage dresses or tea dresses. For a super simple look you can go with holyclothing.com which has a more boho feel.
Believe me, I understand, I looked at wedding dresses for MONTHS until I thought I would vomit if I saw one more!
If you don't want to wear white, what about wearing something in a pale blue? It might go well with your fiance's uniform.
I would say to go hit the consignment stores! Search for a sweet vintage dress that is a different length or color. You'll be sure to not look like anyone else!

The scene: Late fall, Connecticut, a wedding at my grandmother's home. A very simple ceremony in front of the fireplace with our families and the closest of our friends. The "reception" will be a big family dinner, the flowers will be grown by my aunts, another aunt will make the cake.
Additional details: He's planning on wearing his dress blues (Marine Corps) and my daughter (who will be 14 at the time) wants to wear blue to match his "jacket" (blouse). I'm a very confident plus-size girl who doesn't want to wear white - creams, ivories, ect. are fine. No pink please. If I do a train at all it would have to be no more than a sweep. I love lace, am not big on glitter. I want "bridal" but not too formal or over the top.
I'm appealing to the hive because I've hit a wall and am struggling to find a dress I love that matches the feel of the wedding. So my question is... What would you wear?
