I prefer to be in a long gown at black tie functions. However, etiquette does not require you to do so so wear whatever fancy party dress you are comfortable in. Your green dress sounds lovely!
Sounds similar to my wedding, and most of the women wore long gowns with a shawl.
I'm with Habibi, I always wear a long gown to black tie weddings. Your dress sounds beautiful, but I know for me, I tend to notice the few women with short dresses at BT events since the majority wear long dresses.
I would wear a black dress (long or short) or a long evening gown in a darker color such as plum, midnight, emerald, etc.
well its black tie optional, not black tie. I know the bride will have many Filipino relatives there so I don't want to be inappropriate (obviously I won't be wearing a Barong). Maybe ill see closer to the date what a few of the other gals are wearing. Long dresses tend to look a little silly on me since I'm a little short.
I think your dress will be lovely! I agree, you can go long or short, as long as it's somewhat dressy. Of course, you can dress it up with jewelry, fancy high heels, and an elegant updo.

FI is a groomsman in a wedding in October (so I have plenty of time to find a dress if I need to get a new one). The wedding website says Black Tie or Barong Optional. The wedding is interfaith Filipino-Catholic and Jewish.
I have a green dress I wore to a wedding in May, thinking it would be rewearable for this wedding but I'm not sure. Its a Calvin Klein kelly green sheath dress, it has a slight tulip skirt that hits at the knee (the style is very similar to a Nina Ricci style dress).
What do you think? What would you wear or suggest to "avoid"?
