You could get her "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" which is a really funny eye-opening book.
A handmade blanket is always nice! I like to make them for the little ones, but I use fun, soft fabrics with stuff like baseballs, ballet dancers, and so on.
Something thoughtful would be a gift certificate for a massage or pedicure-- it might make her feel better on a rough day.
A bella band? That's what I got my MOH when she got pregnant and she loved it. :D Not sure if it's "fun" but definitely fashionable/practical!
@ Joonbee.. I was going to say that, but couldn't think of the name! lol I would say that, or a nice basket you could put together that has stuff she can use to relax and feel pretty!
I've recently gotten into getting the mom-to-be gifts that focus on her. She'll get plenty of gifts for the baby. As Stewie said, massages or pedis are great gifts in early pregnancy. Something that I've given moms to be further along in their pregnancy is stuff to make them comfortable immediately after giving birth i.e., comfy pajamas (either official "nursing pajamas" or pajamas with a loose waist and easy nursing access), the cream you rub on your breasts when they get sore from nursing, etc. That has always been a big hit!
I agree w/Mrs. DG! I had that book and it was hilarious! Also get her "What to Expect When You're Expecting" gives an insightful week by week look at pregnancy and what's going on.
Or - if you don't wnat to give a gift certificate - a personal foot bath/spa is a good alternative!
Definitely the BellaBand...or those cute Babylegs (baby legwarmers). They have ones that are not gender-specific if it's still a surprise.
I made a "pregnancy survival kit" for my FSIL. cocoa butter, aspirin, a fun personalized shirt, a "license to eat," etc. it was fun to make and she thought it was cute! I also sent flowers to her work. She HAD announced it before this though :)
Just so it's out there... asprin is a no-no for pregnant women. Tylenol is ok, but asprin and ibuprofen are out.
Yes; & also so people know; a lot of doctors discourage massages when pregnant. I know some woman who still do; but many will not because they're doctors say not to.
something to pamper her...gift cert for mani/pedi (especially since she probably wont be able to reach her feet soon) or to get her hair done...something to make her feel pretty
some women abstain from manis/pedis during pregnancy (due to chemicals, etc, but some polishes are pregnancy approved...), but you know her best...
I think pampering gifts and fun pregnancy books (like "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" or "Belly Laughs") are great ideas! Also, something I personally would have liked, is volunteering to help out around the house when/if she gets morning sickness. My poor husband has had do all the cooking, cleaning, dishes, walking the dogs, etc... for the last three months straight!
A gift certificate to a spa or even a gift certificate to a maternity store for her to purchase new outfits. Those maternity outfits are expensive! Oh yea... maybe DIY gift certificates in which you promise to take her to get a much needed mani/pedi when baby starts to grow or maid-for-the-day where you come over and do some cleaning and cooking for her when she's not feeling so hot during the first trimester morning sickness (which can actually last ALL day).
For something cute/quirky, I got a pregnant classmate/friend "P*rn for New Moms" It's pictures of guys vacuuming, feeding the baby, saying that one glass of wine won't affect the breast milk, etc. She LOVED it.
I loved getting pregnancy books and my belly book! (keep track of your pregnancy with pics and such) I also read Belly Laughs, so cute :)
I got one of my friends a nice robe and slippers to take to the hospital and she loved them. Those hospital gowns are flimsy and she felt a lot more covered up in the robe when the in-laws were visiting the new arrival!
Another cute idea is a mom ring with the babys birthstone in it (hard though if the baby is early or late!)
I was going to suggest "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" as well.
There is actually a whole series. Written by a former Playboy Model turned mom of 4. (!!) The books are hysterical, easy to read in short segments, and really spot on.
The most unique and fun gift I got was a Lullabelly Prenatal Music Belt. I got it as a gift at my baby shower, and it was fabulous.
I personally would love something like a gift card to a good maternity store. I'm not showing yet, but I know that when I do, I would love to pick out some cute outfits. I think so many mothers-to-be spend so much of their money on baby that they forget about themselves sometimes. Plus, even now, I have a difficult time even thinking I'll look attractive when it comes to the later months.
I also loved the pregnancy survival kit idea and the robe/slippers for the hospital. I know that my best friend is going to bring me some books that helped her. Also, something to pass the time while they are relaxing or on maternity leave would be great.
My SIL is newly pregnant and i gave her "belly laughs" and a sonogram picture frame that i ordered off amazon.
