tonight i am making smothered baked chicken with mushroom sauce and as a side the macaroni grill pasta and some cibatti (sp?!) bread... desert i may bake cookies....
eta what are you-all making and is there a recipe exchange on here?! if not we should start one!!
... may I please come over for dinner? That sounds awesome. I need to go to the grocery store and get something, otherwise it will be tuna salad for me (on a plate... no bread in the house!)
Lol!!! Of course!! M would probably have a coronary if there were no bread in the house he's so funny!! I just put the chicken in the oven and my 8 year old just had a yummy snack of hamburger helper (dinner from last night)... i have to get a great mac and cheese recipe though I am yearning to make it and perhaps bring it over his mom's for thanksgiving!! (and she's a great cook so i'm nervous about that)!!
btw tuna salad and saltine crackers is my FAVORITE snack with yummy dill pickles!!!sigh hmmm maybe that's what i'll treat myself to tomorrow for lunch!
chicken mignon & salad..... it was suppose to be last nights dinner but we had a storm/power went out and we have a electric oven unfortunately
@crebre80 - i gotta google hamburger helper now - im a bit afraid to though
lol it's basically instant pasta, a sauce and ground beef.
chicken mignon and salad.. sounds so yummy and grown up!! i don't know if m would like that though because he has a very downhome taste palette, but he may go for that... do you have alternatives to make it like would turkey bacon be okay?
We celebrated my dad's birthday last night with steak, so we're making fajitas with the leftovers. I'm so glad that I don't have to THINK (since we haven't really been putting meals together for almost a week already).
dont know what turkey bacon is but why not! tomorrow night its going to be beef sirlon in a ned kelly marinade (bbq chilli) if thats more homestyle :)
ummm why do you have pasta in hamburger helper? pasta isnt in hamburger.... strange (and sometimes scary) americans :)
oh the fajitias sound soo yummy!!! i think i should actually probably begin trying to make a weekly menu it's so much easier than trying to figure out what to coook on a day to day basis. I am sincerely considering using the crock pot as was suggested by missleah in the engagement chicken thread....
i plan my meals weekly - means that i have everything in the house and no take out. i nearly broke my ankle last monday and because ive been uable to cook we had hungry jacks at least twice - yikes, so back to making meals because i can finally stand long enough to cook
i have a blackboard in the kitchen that i write the weeks meals on so i dont have to think too hard when i get home
wow I wish I knew how to make something to have for dinner! It took me and FH an hour to think of what we wanted for dinner and still came up with nothing. So we had sandwwiches (turkey for me and roastbeef for him) and mac salad. Oh!- the mac salad is store bought because I don't know how to make it.
How did you guys become such good cooks? Or even come up with ideas for dinner? If it as up to me it would always be toast or spaghetti-o's. I need help.
Tonight is sticky orange chicken, sauteed spinach and wild rice w/almonds & cranberries. Hooray for fall!
i couldnt boil water before my hubby - but since then ive discovered my inner betty crocker/martha and kicked hubby out of "my" kitchen and with the help of some simple receipe books/sites ive come a long way. i even keep a folder with my fav receipes in them - oh, but i need a pic of the meal before i start cooking it, if it doesnt have a picture of how its suppose to look when finished i dont even try cooking it
helps we dont own a microwave - so we have zero frozen meals and no left overs, hubby hates leftovers.
Today is my birthday so I'm eating like I'm not wedding planning! The FI just left to get fried chicken, mac and cheese, biscuits and spiced apples from a mom and pop restaurant. I might even run out for a Krispy Kreme later.
Sigh, tomorrow - it's back to eating healthy food.
@jspeby - buy cookbooks! They really help until you get the swing of things!
Man I am jealous of you guys tonight...I'm in a hotel on a work trip so I am piecing together leftover snack food.
So far I'm having cheese and crackers and Coronas...Yay!
i couldn't cook before i met m, although i always wanted to learn how! i will say that since i stopped working outside of the home in april i have cooked more (the cleaning i am still working on because well we have tons of stuff that needs to be unpacked!!!
i usually find my recipes on the internet. but i really want to get patty labelle's recipe book, but i think i may "borrow" some from my mom when i go home for christmas. there is this cool thing you can do on campbell's soup, you can just type in what things you have in the fridge and pantry and it will pull up what you can make for dinner! i love it!!
@teamzeewagen: that sounds wonderful!! care to share how to make the sticky chicken?
@eloping: yeah i don't know what i'd do without a microwave?! i of course don't use it for dinner, but to warm up a yummy thing for the next day for my lunch yum yum, yum
haha, just put a chicken pot-pie in the microwave. FI and I have like no food in our house right now!
@crebrea - i aslo dont own a toaster or a kettle either but i do admit to having a egg boiler thing that mades horrible noises when the eggs are boiled - my sister was very embarrassed when i bought this from the store she works at but i use it quite often
roasted chicken, lo-cal french bread roll, sweet corn and wild rice! mm, gotta fit into that wedding dress! Ashamed that there is no green veggie in there though... I should probably have made one. oh well. Oh, and 1/2 cup chocolate fudge brownie Edy's Yogurt Blast ice cream... SO GOOD! (Alternately, 60 cal sugar free fat free Jello Boston Cream pie pudding cups are delicious)
@crebre... I use my crockpot at least twice a week. It is SO FAST in the morning! But I will say, watch out for pork loin/pork loin chops, because they dry out in there no matter what I do. Everything else turns out delicious!
@eloping: i own a toaster oven but no kettle... i own the toaster oven that looks like a small oven though so does that count? lol
Two different types of fresh ravioli: Lobster and tomato basil with fresh green salad with a grape vinegarette dressing.
@laylabelle: Happy birthday!! Mmm good old southern cuisine :) Enjoy it!
For me tonight- seared halibut, yam fries (made w/ my awesome mandoline) and cauliflower mush (It's steamed cauliflower with cream of mushroom soup & nutmeg. Mmm)
Hehe, I just started a thread on this a few mins ago! I guess it's the west coast version! I'm making chicken pot pie!
lol i just responded to your wc version!!!! we are thinking the same thing!!!
Hmm... I am so jealous of everyones food! =) I had a protein shake with rice protein, ground flax seeds, blueberries and rice milk. I had a little bite of extra dark chocolate though - cannot go a day with at least a bite!
I looooove "morning after" fried chicken... with a little bit of salt. Omg. I'm drooling now.
Made some pumpkin ravioli, but they were awful, so have now managed to eat a cookie and some milk. Maybe I'll move on to the watermelon in the fridge. Pathetic...
@layla: poor thing (happy birthday!!!) sigh leave all the good downhome cooking for us fatties to enjoy :D... wait does the fact that i am wanting a curvaceous dress mean i need to start watching what i eat (nahhhh)!! i'll wait until i get the ring to stress out :D damn i have finally found a good thing about not being engaged!!
@mshymanroth:morning after pizza does it for me!! yummy!!!
@crebre80 - Thank you!! Haha, no I just have my final fitting in two weeks, and it's a mermaid. If I gain two pounds between now and then, I ain't sittin'! (but really, who sits at their wedding?)
Now, to eat the chocolate pie!! Yaaaah for birthdays!!
P.S. I would love to participate in the recipe exchange ... once I'm a newlywed - of course. I have under a month and so I'm not cooking anything ... just protein shakes, dark chocolate and salads =) haha Maybe a fish at the restaurant. I haven't learned to really cook real food yet.
Omg. Chocolate pie? I love birthdays, my mom makes amazing chocolate cake homemade for me. It's the best ever.
Oh gaaaaaaaaaah I wish it was my moms homemade pie!!! But no, it's from the mom and pop restaurant, and it's no added sugar... we shall see! :) I don't really think chocolate pie can be bad, now that I think about it!! :)
@laylammmmmmmm chocolate pie!! how awesome!!
@mshymanroth: i'll start the thread now :D so you'll have plenty of research going on when you get to the other side...
@alioopsiedaisy: did you make the rice? i am awful at making rice.. can you please give instructions?!
Happy birthday, Laylabelle! Calories don't count on birthdays. :)
We had pizza and junky food for dinner. It's fiance's thing when there's a Packer game on - eat cheese and crackers and "fun food" and watch the game... Monday Night Football. I'm having fun watching him jump up and scream at random intervals.
I didn't feel like cooking tonight so I ordered Chinese. Chicken Lo Mein. FI had General Tso's.
@jduck - thanks!! That's what I always say too - they don't count on birthdays or holidays!!
@jduck84:hilarious!! or fun food is usually wings and fries or nachos something easy and very game like....
