Weddingbee boards

Another thread that's running on this board is discussing, "whose wedding is it anyway?" so I thought it might be interesting to see what people have done "for themselves" and what they have done or to accomodate others. Whether your planning or went through, everyone has to make concessions somewhere!!! :)

My list -

For us:

- the small ceremony followed by a small dinner, I wouldn't have wanted to get married any other way even if I have an inkling some people felt left out of that day

- little yellow duckie cake topper, his mom HATED it but we loved them and felt is was so us

- feathers in my bouquet, my mom hated the concept (and then loved the bouquet)

- mason jar centerpieces, both our moms almost flipped a gasket when I first started talking about them but I loved the concept and after they saw them they were pretty happy with them too

For them:

- large reception the day after the ceremony (which was kind of for us too), his parents would have been crushed if they couldn't have had the big party with all their friends and family

- flowers, I'm not a floral person, that said both the dinner the night of and the reception the next day had some very pretty country-style flowers

- cake, I'm not a big cake person but my MIL thought we needed to have it, so we did

Oveall all of the compromises worked out and we had a lovely day!!

How about others??

FOR US:

-cat cake topper.  No one else got it, but we LOVE our fur baby so we just had to do it. 

-the music.  Lots of rock, Oingo Boingo, and the Monster Mash.  I walked down the aisle to a Danny Elfman song. 

-drove ourselves around in a Corolla.  Everyone wanted us to get a limo.  Um, who's gonna pay for it.  Nix.

-no huge formal family pics.  Hate them.  Passionately. 

FOR THEM:

-I wore a white dress.  With a veil.  Was so important to both our mothers, I had to forget my idea of a big, lacy black dress.  Oh well.

-Little scented sachets as favors.  I wanted to give people things they could eat.  Or nothing. 

-Beef food selection. 

-country music at reception.  Played 4 or 5 songs, the ONLY ppl dancing to it was grooms direct family, 6 people at best.  Afterward they still complained we didn't play enough country. 

For us:

-Brown for our wedding color-Everyone thought it was too dark for a summer wedding

-Getting married in June-When Family suggested an off month

-Pink Accents-FMIL thought it was too cliche

-Root Beer Floats instead of Cake-My fiance and I dont' like cake why should we spend that much money?

For THEM:

- Big wedding-We wanted 150 our families wanted 275 We settled if they paid for food. :-)

No Chicken Menu-Our Families thought too many people do it and are sick of it...so we diceded on Pork

My family wasn't too demanding of too many things. Just simple stuff.
