I often see questions about wedding budgets here on the bee and I’m wondering what most people include in that budget. we had a non traditional intimate wedding so most categories wouldn’t apply to us anyway (we didn’t do favors, didn’t truly have a cateror, etc…) but I’m curious.
Does the budget just include wedding day expenses? the honeymoon? The rings?

When I budgeted I inclydes everything such as airfares (dw) and honeymoon as well as rings. I wanted to see how much all up we are actually spending, and determine if we are comfortable with that,

We consider ours in three pools —
The wedding itself and all that’s involved there, including dress, shoes, undergarments, venue(s), food, alcohol, transport etc. flowers* (my parents are paying this)
The rehearsal dinner (my FI’s parents are paying this)
Personal expenses including honeymoon, ring, attendant gifts, etc. (FI and I are paying this)
*FI’s parents are covering personal flowers and officiant costs.
Because three different “parties” are paying for the three different pools, it’s easier to separate them out like this.

Here’s what we included, pasted from my spreadsheet with names redacted. I thought about including the honeymoon but decided not to. Yours can include whatever you want it to! Anything you NEED to budget (and by that I mean plan for), include it.
Welcome dinner (in lieu of a rehearsal dinner)
Gift for (people letting us use their venue for free)
Miscellaneous (stamps, family gifts))

I include everything except the honeymoon, I think that should be left out because often people don’t take one, or take one at a later date, etc. So I find it too variable to include. I mean…if you take your honeymoon 3-6 months later is it really still part of the wedding budget?
I would include everything else. I think rings could be left off but I include them into mine. I also include the cost of the rehearsal dinner.

Our budget will cover wedding day expenses and rings. We have a separate honeymoon budget because we want to see how our wedding expenses work out before setting it. FI and I aren’t too picky about where we go, so we can be a bit more flexible with this decision.

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
When I think of a wedding budget, I don’t include rings or a honeymoon (unless it is a Destination Wedding where the honeymoon is wrapped into the wedding itself).
