I'm doing a cake topper with just petals on the table. You really don't have to do a topper though if you don't want one. Or, I don't know what your cake looks like but could you do flowers along the side of the cake or the bottom or something and then have a caketopper on the top? Just an idea! :)
The top of our cake will be an artist's scene (painter's pallette, brushes, tubes). It's very different but it explains a little bit of us both.
We had flowers. The design of our cake would have looked busy if we had had a topper. Also, I couldn't really find a topper I totally loved. I am very happy with the flowers we had!
I'm thinking of doing a monogram cake topper, but I haven't decided yet.
Here is mine I love it! You can get it custom made hair, dress, flowers, and colors. She is amazing you can contact her on Etsy.com. Her company is Mudcards. They were only 45-$55. It take 4 weeks and you only pay for it if you like it when she is done.
A custom bird cake topper by Etsy seller SueBeeHB -- can't wait to share pictures of it with the hive!
Nothing! We were going for a very simple, modern look, so we don't have a topper.
If any, a simple monogram done in fondant on our chocolate fudge cake, as seen in a recent Knot issue.
I found the perfect Lladró figurine on eBay for a good price and had to have it. It has some flaws, but I love it anyway.
Flowers...well, kind of...
I asked our "friend-or" who made our cake to put flowers on the top. *White* flowers that matched our bouquets. Despite providing her with a sketch AND the flowers themselves, she chose to put a huge pink gerbera daisy on the top of the cake. I was pretty unhappy about it, but when you get a friend (my mom's best friend from HS) instead of a paid vendor, then I think you have less control over stuff like that.
We are having a fondant bow...because the cake is going to look like gifts.
But after making this decision, we fell in love with the Mii cake toppers, and bought those to put on the side of the table.
My grandma is giving us the cake topper from her and my grandpa's wedding. I'm really excited to have a vintage and meaningful cake topper!
@ Jessie516 - Aw! I love gerbera daisies (have some in my garden even).....but if I saw that on top of my cake instead of the roses or poms that are actually in the wedding, I think I would have been a little upset too. ;)
@Bridebella - What a nice detail and addition to your wedding!
We're going to have two cute little birds-
and probably flowers on the others. We're going to have the tiers separated and set on their on cake stands! kinda like this

We had chocolate leaves on top of our cake. They also were placed strategically on the different tiers of the cake as well.
@Pelikila: Yum-o! That cake is gorg!
We won't have a cake topper for the wedding cake. Just some lovely scroll work with our monogram in the center. But I'm looking for a topper for the groom's cake (us playing football!).
our cake is very simple and modern so we're using a flower topper to jazz it up some (and tie it in with the centerpieces)

I am debating whether to do a cake topper or flowers for our wedding cake. I originally though of just doing flowers but while we were at a bridal show my mom and friend thought that was off and not "fun". I don't care for the bride/groom toppers. If I did a topper it would have to be the last name inital or our mongram or something.
So what are you doing on top of your cake?
