Have you ever done a Yankee swap? Pretty much guaranteed Christmas party fun. My family gets so ridiculously competetive over it, it’s hilarious.

Great topic idea! I’m mostly commenting so I can subscribe to it, but I’ll toss out a few ideas, too!

I went to a Christmas party back when we were all at the dorm, and I loved that we all made paper snowflakes. Maybe a more grown up idea would be to have any sort of craft, maybe making Christmas cards or something. You’d definitely have to have the right group for it, though! :o)

We are having a Christmas party/surprise birthday party next month. Only thing that is making it awesome is just getting to see all the friends together. We will be doing the Yankee swap/Dirty santa/white elephant.

Personally, I’m not a fan of those gift swapping games. For the quiet type folks, its rather awkward! but if you have a fun crowd, why not?

I think just getting together whith fun food is nice. Make it a tacky x-mas sweater party to make it funny.

If there is snow in your area, hold a big outdoor bonfire, or organize a snowball fight, sledding event.

@Eva Peron: Not everyone has to play, it’s just as fun to watch from the sidelines.

My parents have a big Christmas party every year and it is SO MUCH FUN. Now that my sisters and I are older there are people there from multiple generations. We decided that one thing that makes it different is that they play loud music. People dance (the alcohol probably helps with this one) while they blast rock music. Probably not the ideal feel for everyone, but we love it!

@KatyElle: My sister’s in laws do a yankee Christmas but everything has to be a “as seen on TV product” Those can get pretty fun.

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose: It is really fun, it gets people talking and laughing, throw some Christmas music on, pass around some festive drinks and food, you really can’t go wrong. I love Christmas!

I personally hate gift swaps…

a spinoff of the sweater idea… funkiest Christmas hat? It’s always fun to see crazy hats around the holidays.
