All my life, I have had weak, brittle and thin nails. I can’t keep them long bc they are so thin that they’ll bend backwards.
Ive tried vitamins specifically for nails (biotin), I’ve tried nail strengthener polishes, I push my cuticules back daily and apply moisturizer on them daily but I just cant get them strong enough.

I have heard that prenatal vitamins are good for hair and nails. I’ve never tried it though.

@cmoest: I’ve always had the same issues. I have been taking pre natal vitamins for the past 2 years and my hair and nails are SO much healthier! I think I pay $6 for 80 pills at Walmart. Well worth it 🙂

shellac manicures are awesome for your nails having strength without ruining your nails in the same way as gel manicures… it’s just a thick polish. They have lots of at home kits… since everything else takes a long time to fix.
My nails have always been pretty bad but every since I started eating much cleaner and take vitamins they’re way better. I can actually grow them a bit. We are what we eat, and I’ve definitely noticed big differences since I really have taken that to heart.
The acai berry is called the beauty berry – and is good for hair, nails and skin too.
I’ve defintiely heard good things about prenatals though!
The body requires the following vital vitamins for nails; otherwise it could lead to brittle nails:
- Vitamin A deficiency: No half-moons or ridged nails, brittle, peeling or splitting nails
- Vitamin B-12 deficiency: Nails curve down past your fingertips, flat nails, dark, spoon shaped nails
- Vitamin C deficiency: Fraying, pitted, split nails, frequent occurrence of hang nails
- Vitamin D deficiency: Brittle, peeling or cracking nails

@cmoest: do you polish your nails often? I paint mine a lot and that can make them brittle. then I started using this (Sephora Collection Instant Nail Polish Remover), and it helped quite a bit.
I know it seems expensive, but it works amazingly well and the health of my nails improved significantly. I’m not one to shell out for expensive cosmetics — I’m kind of a diehard drugstore brand gal — but this one is worth it.

Biotin! Prenatal vitaimins are just like any other multivitamin with the exception of extra folic acid, so if you are vitamin deficient any mulit vitamin will help, but the one that REALLY helped me was Boitin! My hair is growing longer, my nails are growing longer and stronger and my eyelashes are CRAZY! My bottom eyelashes have started growing almost as much as my top! I am loving it!
I also use “Nail Envy” by OPI with a top coat of “Grow Stonger” by Essie, which a lot of “nail blog guru’s” Swear by! 🙂

Eat more protein!! A few years ago I found out that I had hypoglycemia and I had to change my diet. The biggest change was that I needed to eat something with protein every 4-5 hours. I used to eat way more carbs and hardly any protein. My nails are amazing now, and became so shortly after the diet change.
