This wasn't MY wedding gift, but I gift a friend got... a chocolate basket shaped like a swan with chocolates inside. We could not stop laughing when she opened it and her husband kept defending them and saying they have just bought a chocolate factory. WTF?
My future mother in law gave me a french maid outfit that she got as a gift for her second wedding a few years ago. She said she never wore it and it will not fit her now!!!
For Christmas, my sister got me a baby onesie, and well I don't have any babies and won't have any anytime soon. She said she couldn't resist buying it because it had little Eiffel Towers on it.
My mom bought me a purse made out of a license plate from my homestate. Apparently there is an inmate rehabilitation program where they make license plate purses. To get her back, I'm getting her a purse made out of wrappers-Fritos wrappers, etc. TAKE THAT MOM!!
This was a loooong time ago, but I think it still applies. My great-grandma got me a subscription to Sesame Street magazine.....when I was 13! I did end up using it when I baby-sat, so it wasn't a total waste.
Also, this year for Christmas, my FMIL gave me lots of random things that she got when a gift shop in her town went out of business. Nothing really awful or completely strange (an iron plate/picture holder-I'm not sure which, a Christmas ornament shaped like our former high school-Ok, that is weird, etc.) but still just not typical gifts for someone that is my age and living in a very small and cramped apartment! She is more than twice my age, and we have VERY different taste, but she thinks we like the same stuff. She always shows me stuff she's purchased or gives me things and says things like, "Isn't that just the cutest? Don't you just LOVE it?" Usually no, I don't, but I'm getting better at not answering and avoiding hurting her feelings. Good thing too, since I'm marrying her son and I'm sure many more gifts will come my way over the years!
This past Christmas I got some odds and ends as usual from my FMIL, but the thing that takes the cake is a money bag....ummm WTF is this for???
I got a set of tools from my parents... except that I live with FI and he has pretty much everything we need. Oh, and this was the THIRD set of tools from them in the last 6 years. Hmm, what are they trying to tell me?
My FMIL gave me very bright colored salt and pepper shakers for Christmas this past year, then she admitted to getting the for free at her kids school. She then told me that they didn't match anything she had and since she knew I liked colorful things she gave them to us.
From my husband's grandfather, we got 2 non matching towels, 2 engraved Bibles, a library cookbook from the 70s and 2 shower loofahs!
We got a basket filled with condoms, a sex game, sexy underwear, sausage, wine and breath mints...it was embarrassing opening infront of my parents to say the least...
Wubz, that wasn't from your parents, right? Just opening it in front of your parents?
The craziest gift we received was a previously opened George Foreman Grill from my FI uncle. Atleast it wasn't used... I hope!
We got a BAG of kitchen goodies from the dollar store. Classy.
My grandmother once gave me 100 rolls of toilet paper.
My stepfather's mother gave my fiance a box FILLED with Hooters merchandise this christmas- a couple of t-shirts, a hoodie, a carabiner, a hat, chapstick... FI was mortified- he is very nerdy and shy, and the last place he'd ever go is Hooters...
