That's how I've understood the whole "maid" "matron" situation.
I think they are exactly the same, duty-wise, the title's just different if she's married already.
I'm pretty sure that's it. I don't know that they have different duties, per se. I think they just share the typical MOH role.
Same same, I think maid comes from "Maiden" as in unwed lady...not so much cleaning maid.... Are you having one? Or both?
Same as PP. My maid is my daughter, 14 years old. The two matrons are my sisters that are married. Duties are the same all around. All three have planned an engagement party, came dress shopping, helped with DIY stuff and are planning the bachelorette and bridal shower. No change in duties from one to the other!
@aardvark: My little sister (18) is my maid of honor and older cousin is going to be my matron of honor. The rest of my bridal party is married but I didn't want to ask a girlfriend to be matron so I didn't start a fight :)
So is there a Best man and somethng else comperable? How would you word that?

The only difference, that I've ever heard of, was the fact that "Maid" is not married and a "Matron" is not. Do they have any different duties?
