So far, I have to say my FI has been amazingly helpful dealing with vendors, super hands-on in the planning process. We've really only had 1 moment where we completely disagreed.

He felt rather strongly that one of my bridemaids could surely find a dress in their closet they already owned and the others could just buy a similar dress, no problem! LOL wtf? I should point out that we are having a semi-formal evening wedding.

hahah I'm still laughing about this.

what are some of the funny ideas your FI s have had?

Mine thought that it would be perfectly acceptable to have a backyard wedding...BBQ or clam-bake style.....WAIT FOT IT...............w/ a slip n' slide....

seriously....and then he asks me why we can't do it

Haha a slip n'slide..well the funny thing is that what I thought were 'funny and crazy' ideas our our reception I ended up giving in and that's what we're doing. MY FI comes from a beautiful big farm in vermont...but I would have never considered having the reception in is backyard where there are still the smells of the farm. Over the years I have completely gotten used to it and I realized that people would too and it's most affordable. PLUS we're going to have corn hole boards set up during the cocktail hour so people can play games.

Well I do agree it would be fun, but it just didn't go w/ my other ideas :o)  and I would have caught a lot of sh*t from my family!  So he's getting a pig roast for our Jack n' Jill and he got to choose the honeymoon - fair right? hahhaa

Ok, well this is not my fiance's idea, but I thought I'd share. I saw a wedding TV show once and the couple was having their wedding in October. Well, the groom thought it would be cool to have jack-o-lanterns as centerpieces. So he bought a bunch of pumpkins and started carving faces on them, lol. It took him a few days. he didn't tell his fiance because he wanted to surprise her, and when he did, she just laughed at him, and said "Uh, no way in hell are we using those as centerpieces." Lol.

@AmberEyes - awww I feel kind of bad about the jack o'lantern centerpieces.  I'm sure they looked hillarious, but it's cute that he wanted to surprise her!

    Slip n slide...hahahahahhahahaha how funny!

So get this, FI's Best Man is very shy and not the best public speaker. We were talking about speeches and I randomly said something about funnel cakes and FI chimed in with "Let ******* make funnel cakes at the reception and he can tell his speech to each individual who comes to get a funnel cake!" He thought it was brilliant, and the best man was totally down with the idea. But I put a damper on that by vetoing funnel cakes!

On a side note and NWR, after I told FI that BBQ sauce was basically ketchup and brown sugar he came up with the idea to just make brown sugar chicken nuggets and eliminate the extra pack of BBQ sauce, I could just dip it ketchup and get the same taste!

My FI has an appropriate sense of style, I wouldn't call him stylish, but what he wears is usually acceptable...

Our colors are cobalt blue, orange, yellow, and lime green.  He thought it would be cool to find hand-painted floral ties for the groomsmen.  WHAT?

This isn't so much silly as something that surprised me.  My fiance is fixated on us having Chiavari chairs.  I've explained to him the price difference between Chiavari chairs & nice wooden folding chairs.  And, we've gone over that Chiavari chairs might be too formal for our rustic casual wedding.  Yea, he's not buying it!  Whenever we go to wedding events or are watching events on TV or if I am showing him inspiration pictures, he always points out when he sees Chiavari chairs.  Sigh!

Our venue comes with the Chiavari chairs, my fiance also noticed this...weird!. As to my surprise my FI had muuuuch much more of an opinion on the ceremony/reception venues then I did. Of course making me insane by the time we finally picked them since I was doing all the research and he was just spouting 'no'. lol :) Men <3

i am the one who has probably come up with most of the crazy ideas!!! my partner rolls his eyes at me all the time in fact - i think I am the "groom'!

    these have included:

    star wars cookies

purple or red wedding dress (he wanted white so this is what i have)

roulette wheel wedding cake (we are having this)

elvis impersonator (and we are having this!)

and i have to say i actually like a few of the ideas on here - ie bridemaids carrying a single flower  - i think this would look very elegant!  clambake with a slip n slide -love!

i am somewhat non traditional though.

FI wanted to walk into the star wars banquet theme at the end of A New Hope.  luckily, he has since changed his mind.  lol
his other idea was to cook lasagna to feed our guests at the reception to save money.  not a bad idea if we weren't inviting 200 people.  the logistics of that made my head hurt.

@ ladygoodman.....my mother is obsessed w/ chair covers the way your FI is w/ the chairs themselves....$700 for chair covers!!!  I have had several family members threaten to rip them off in the middle of the reception and twirl them around!

I am the one who has gotten most of my ideas vetoed: mexican food at the reception (I wish I would have thought of a queso fountain!), karaoke at the reception, just going to Vegas and eloping, a poker table at the reception (which I actually managed to talk him into)

He hasn't had any really crazy ideas, sadly.  He's a traditionalist.

Not my FI, but my dad. I went to the fabric store with my parents to buy ribbon and tulle. We got the ribbon and then I said oh we need to get tulle before we leave and my dad, clearly out of his element in a fabric store, said "I don't know what you're looking for but I didn't see any tools." I laughed at him and showed him the bolt of tulle.

If it was up to FI, our wedding would have featured groomsmen dressed in full stormtrooper armor and a pig-roast. In space. Not that that's so terrible, but I still would've had to do all the work. haha

Before we were engaged, I was trying to talk wedding with my FI.  He stated that he wanted to ride giant turtle down the isle.  When I told him that was the most hilariously ridiculous idea I had ever heard he said, completely seriously, "Well, I want to ride on something...would a horse be ok then?"  O.o  Yeah...  When I told him a few weeks later that I didn't think riding a horse down the isle was a good idea, he started laughing uncontrollably saying, "Really Lindsay!  You thought I was serious?!"  Haha  He's such a goofball.

So, FI thinks that I am wearing an ENORMOUS ball gown in blue (not even close), and I ealized how big he tought my dress was when he thought it was a geat idea to enter the reception with him underneath the skirt of my dress hiding, and me act all mad like I didn't know where he was. And then he would "pop out and save the day." I was in awe that his mind even came up with that!!! But, I love him for his humor!!!!! :)

    @ jenbrandner

My FI keeps saying the same thing about photography "Just tell everyone to bring their cameras, I'm sure we'll get SOME good pictures" D:

Photography is a biggie on my list, and I'd really like to know with certainty that there will be really good pictures, not just some 'okay' ones.

Other than that he's been just generally goofy, for example: last night we watched The Men Who Stare At Goats, which was an okay movie, but at one point when Jeff Bridges puts LSD in the water my FI says excitedly "Sweetie! we could do that!" uh yeah, because my 70 year old gramma tripping on acid would be *such* a good idea, his response "But most of our relatives were hippies at one point or another! And Ken Kesey did it.." [he thought he could convince me with a literary reference!]

Thank goodness he wasn't entirely serious.

My FFI wants to have his groomsmen dress as ninjas. I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious. He also wants the whole wedding to be in his favorite footy teams colours, red white and black, when I either want red aqua and white or sage green, dusty pink and shades of gold. I do all the research and he vetos everything! Drives me insane, but I still love him, lol.

I think I am on the "girls with crazy ideas" page. I am the crazy lady, and he's the traditional one from the suburbs. He wants to wear a black tux so bad, like he has in all his friends weddings. But I love boys in vests! What's the FUNNIEST/most RIDICULOUS idea your FI has come up w/ re: the wedding? : wedding funny arguments 4 3 09 347 1024x682

Asterisks are what we plan on doing.

    Things I have wanted/want:

    Rock Poster Invitations

Get Married at the State Fair.

    Get Married at Target Field.

Hotdish at the wedding!* (It's "Prarie Home Companion Inspired"!)

Bingo at the reception! (Seriously, I think this would be tons of fun.)

S'mores at the reception* (there are two fire pits)

....and there are so, so many more.
