(Either because you didn't know at the time how useless it was and you realized that later, or because you just wanted it, even though you knew it was useless.)

Mine was matching napkin rings. Who ever thought that was a good idea? I am NEVER going to host a meal with napkin rings! argh!

I didn't realize how useless it was at the time, but we registered for a wine bottle insulator. It's not one of the electric ones either, so it doesn't actually cool the wine, just helps it stay cool longer.

Most everything we have is useful.  I'd say the most frivilous is my daisy chip and dip bowl or the PlayStation Vita!  lol

garlic press. I use my mini cuisinart for all garlic and onion chopping. The press wastes a lot and takes up space.

I just hosted a brunch and I wish I had napkin rings! I used various cuff bracelets instead. It was cute.

A few serving dishes we got. Most of out "entertaining" is tailgating so my colorful serving pieces don't match our maroon tailgate.

@SFreeman2187:   I love tailgating. We didnt do any this year. I am totally in love with our portable gas grill! This isnt exactly ours. it folds and wheels, this doesnt.

I'm tempted to say crystal. We got a few things (i.e. my Oster 3-tier steamer) that make me wonder when I'm ever going to use them, but I can think of uses for them all. The crystal, I don't even know when I'm gonna take that out of the box. I only like flowers when they come from DH, and we've got 2 vases and a bowl.

@lefeymw:  I would like one of those but our tailgating is a little....bigger. We're award winning tailgaters - national champions. Its sad, really. But we love it!

Kate Spade toasting flutes. Beautiful, but really, who needs a $60 pair of toasting flutes? If someone gets them we'll use them at the wedding and that's probably it.

@lefeymw: I don't use the mini chopper I got. I tend to just chop garlic and onion. Also, if I want to chop a lot of onions, I use my food processor.

@carrieknitscake:   I also use it for salad dressing marinades, chopped salads, mushrooms, tomatoes for sauce etc for individual meals. Its a mini cuisinart and I have the full sized (heavy!) one. I also have a little chopper thing that is an attachmen to my Immersion hand blender. That doesnt work well

oooh that is another one. my immersion hand blender. my vitamix is 10x more powerful and does a better job so I dont use it.

It's funny how one person's necessity might be completely useless to another person... We also got a coffee maker, even though neither of us really drinks coffee; we were thinking we could make coffee for others, but so far we haven't at all, and I can't really imagine when we might actually!

A banana slicer... it was the only thing that DH really wanted... so I obliged. I'm perfectly happy to cut bananas with a knife, but he thought it was the coolest thing ever invented.

"BABE, I can use it for my cereal!!!!!"

I think we probably will use our napkin rings... just very rarely lol.

I think the most useless thing we registered for was probably the ice cream maker attachment for the Kitchenaid mixer. I doubt we'll use it more often than once in 3 years, but we needed to regiser for more stuff so we added it.

Hm, this is a hard one. I kind of refused to register for anything useless- I'm too practical! That being said, our registry is tiny, so I should probably add a few luxury purchases.

I think the thing that will be used least on our registry is probably the crystal gravy boat, but I know even that will get used at least 3-4 times/year.

@DeathByDesign:  I love our ice cream maker attachment, it's awesome :) although I've discovered that while it's delicious, homemade ice cream is way more expensive than buying whatever is on sale for $3/half gallon. Blame it on the $12 vanilla bean...

We had a relatively small registry (about 45 items, though our guest list was ~200). So there was nothing useless on it, and we used the completion discount to buy everything that was left.

We refused to register for useless things. We have enough junk around, haha. That being said, we did register for a top-of-the-line professional waffle maker. We probably won't use it that often. . . especially since FI has since been diagnosed with celiacs.

We go through short periods where we use our ice cream maker attachment.  Since we've been buying other foods in bulk lately just to cut down on overall costs, we don't keep it in the freezer ready to go anymore.  Even if you can't keep it ready to go at all times, it is fun.  Best flavor so far?  Nutella ice cream.

I have several different sets of napkin rings, and I don't use them often. However, I have used them at the holidays.  One set I thought would ultimately be useless came in handy when I bought what looked like white napkins, but turned out to be cream.  I used a silver & cream napking ring to make it look like it belonged on a table that was otherwise all white and silver. :)

I haven't even thought registry yet, but I discovered a lot of uselss items when we merged households.  I'm thinking I'll clean out the kitchen again before we even think of registering.  I think the most useless things we have are some of our glass pitchers that don't pour well or are too small in general.  This thread may inspire me to actually pull them out and donate them to the local thrift store.

honestly, the fine china. I had very traditional guests and got a full set, but since we moved, we never got them out of their boxes. It's been 11 months. On the other hand, we registered for every day china, and I only have four sets of it. Kind of frustrating. Maybe we'll just use the fine china, it's super gorgeous :)

We registered for the kitchenaid ice cream maker without realizing that it had to go into the freezer!! We don't have any freezer space AT ALL so needless to say, it got returned.

That was probably our most useless gift.

@joy2011:  This. We registered for Lenox toasting flutes and went ahead and bought them off our registry this week when Macy's was having a one day sale so they were 50% off. I'd rather have those bad boys in my hands and drinking out of them than holding up the box at the wedding and pretending!

A bacon press maybe? (I'm kind of a bacon fanatic!)
