i eat my m&ms by colour order, least liked to most liked colours
so blue, then green, then orange then yellow.. leaving the red and then the brown ones to the very last
oh, and i eat them by 2 also
double oh, and if i can, i will group them in their colours first
triple oh... and if you ask me for some m&m's i will tell you what colour you can take and you will take only that colour
of course, this doesnt make me weird... does it :)
I check all doors/windows atleast 3 times per night to make sure they are locked.
I eat my skittles the same way you eat your M&Ms (only I eat blue raspberry skittles last)
I've been known to drive 20 miles back home just to check to make sure I turned off the iron....that I know I already checked atleast 3 times.
I always make sure the oven/stove are turned off..even though I don't cook a whole lot anymore.
And I always check underneath my bed before going to bed (3 times)...a habit I had as a kid that never died. lol
I could go on and on about my OCD tendencies, but I think I'll stick to the calmer ones that make me seem less wierd. LOL
I check my alarm twice before going to bed b/c once after a late night of emergency call at the hospital I forgot to set it b/c I was so tired.
My other thing is I double check before I walk out and poke my head back in my bathroom in the morning to make sure the flat iron is unplugged. I just love my pets so much and want them to be safe when I'm at work.
I set my alarm in the morning, but don't 100% remember hearing it (i usually say something out loud to tell myself i set it) and then end up halfway out of the subdivision before i turn around "just to check"
I've done it for curling irons and coffee makers, too. And the stove. I like when things beep on and off.
@ eloping and JsDragonfly: I thought I was the only one! That's how I eat my M&Ms and Smarties. Rockets, too.
I also eat all the outer chocolate covering off my Kit Kat before eating the crispy inside part. Yes, I know I'm weird.
Ah! I'm a hand washer. Fanatically weird about it. I'll wash them, then re-wash them if they don't feel clean enough. I've always been odd about my hands being dirty - my mom said I would freak as a kid if I got sticky stuff on my hands.
Cooking takes me FOREVER, since i have to wash my hands everytime I touch something new.
i check to make sure i shut off my hair iron a hundred times! im so paranoid that ill burn the house down!
K I have a problem with your subject: first of all you said "THING" so that implies that I only do one OCD thing and then secondly you said "SLIGHTLY" and I wouldn't call some of my habits slight, LOL
I check my flat iron a bunch of times before I leave the house to make sure it's unplugged. Sometimes I'll walk past the bathroom and I'll think "yeah it's unplugged". I'll come back later and think "wait was I really paying attention before when I checked it? I better check it again!!" I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this!
I organize my clothes in my closet first by color and then each color group is organized from most amount of fabric (sweatshirts, long sleeves) on the left to the least amount of fabric (camis, tank tops) on the right. And everything must face right. And my FI is incapable of putting them in this order so he's not allowed to put away my laundry. I know it's weird, but I can't stop! They just have to be perfect!
I'm also a freak about the pantry and bathroom closets. They have to be well organized. I can't really explain how I arrange the pantry, but it makes total sense. to me. :)
I also hate eating in most restaurants because I feel like there could just be so many germs around me. I mean, who's to say that some kid didn't just wipe his snotty hand all over the table and then I'm supposed to feel better when they come around with a wet rag and wipe it down?! That will just smear the germs! I'm not a total clean freak but I can't get over this fear that the germs are attacking me when I eat out. There's too many people who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom and then they touch the tables and booths at restaurants. I know it!
Ok I'm done for now :P
I do the same thing with M&Ms (minus the twos... You have to eat them by splitting each one in half, getting the peanut out and then suctioning the candy/chocolate part to your tongue)... and green has to be last. I still feel like blue is a cheater because it wasn't there when I was a kid.
Also any candy bar (like shnoogles) has to have the chocolate/caramel part eaten off first. This includes Kit Kat, Snickers, Twix and Milky Way... Don't even get me started about how I eat Pretzel Flips. There's definitely a way that involves chipping the chocolate off with my teeth first.
Also I don't love it when my food touches and flavors mix, but I'm not so stressed about that anymore.
Oh, and don't leave your stuff on my kitchen table. It totally sends me over the edge!
I check my alarm 3 times before bed.
Also, whenever I use the microwave, I end my cooking time with the number 2. So, if it's supposed to be cooked for 2 and a half minutes I set it to cook for 2 min, 32 seconds. No idea why I do this or how it started. Very random.
I have to absolutely make sure my doors are locked every night even if FI just locked them himself.
My fiance and I both do the M&M thing!
All the bottles in the shower must be facing front-side out.
I do the dishes and stack them in the dish drainer in a very specific order. Silverware and utensils, cereal or soup bowls, plates, glasses and mugs, mixing bowls, containers, and then pots and pans. Always the same.
I know I have a few others I can't remember right now.
My fiance has a few but the only one I can think of right now is when he makes tater tots, he puts them in very neat little rows on the baking pan. And if the rows aren't complete, he will move them around or add/subtract tots to make all the rows even.
I have to wake up in like 30 minutes intervals about three times before I actually get up. FH hates it b/c my alarm starts going off since about 6am just to get up at 8am....Im a deep sleeper. LOL!
I also press and flatten my hamburgers and stuff in restaurants - it's kind of gross but I have to do it.
I cant stand when lights are on in other rooms people arent in in the house. I would put the clapper on our registry if it worked for switch lights.
@hcritton: i arrange my clothes by color and style, too!!
i cannot stand dirty dishes on the sink, so i wash them as soon as i finish eating.
every night, i clean our bedclothes to eliminate dust. this freaks out my husband!
i always use straws to drink any bottled/canned beverage.
when i'm nervous, i clean, clean, clean.
Hi my name is Samisomsam and I am slightly OCD ("hi Samisomsam")
I have 6 calendars that all have the same information and are all updated to be exactly the same.
All of my books are in alphabetical order by author and then title, unless its a series.
All of my movies are in alphabetical order.
I wash the sink and mirror whenever I brush my teeth.
My shirts and dresses in my closet are arranged by length of sleeve and then by color.
I eat small candy (M&Ms, skittles, etc.) in twos, but they can't be the same color.
The only thing I can think of is that I neurotically lock my car while driving... I almost do it automatically as soon as I get in, and then whenever I see someone walking around outside (ie everywhere!). Its just embarassing when I have passengers and I accidentally lock it before they even get in
I'm sure there are tons more things I do but its just second nature so I don't think about it!
If i'm getting a drink, I have to rinse the bottom of the cup 2 times with water before putting my drink in it. Not a big deal until we need to set the table for a party, than I have real problems because I have to do it to everyone's cup.
When I'm brushing my teeth, I have to rinse a certain amount of times, I've never counted this, I go by feel, but i've actually rebrushed my teeth before if I mess up or get distracted with something else.
If I set my alarm, it has to be an off number, like 5:32 or 6:42, usually a 02 32 or 42 though because I can't have it going off on a rounded number like 6:30
During my wedding, in the middle of the reverend talking I reached up and plucked a wayward petal from my husband's bout. I just couldn't stand it anymore and I didn't want to look at pictures forever thinking "What is up with the petal?"
In general I'm just very particular about weird things. For instance, I have to make things a certain way, or place my kitchen utensils in a certain drawer, etc. Non-specific OCD.
PS-If you're really OCD, then you call it CDO, which would be alphabetical!
I seperate my M&Ms by color and then eat them one at a time in a circle...I'm the odd one out on this one, it appears
Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) must be ironed before I put it on. I iron my sheets and my pillowcases too.
I take pictures of whatever flowers my boyfriend happens to bring home.
Oh, this is the topic for me. I have so many crazy compulsions.
* If I am using markers, colored pencils, or crayons, they need to be lined up in rainbow order.
* My closet is organized by sleeve length.
* I have two separate datebooks--one for grad-school-related stuff and one for personal stuff--and I carry them both with me everywhere.
* When I eat M&Ms, I line them up in rainbow order and eat them in order of least-liked color to most-liked color (holla @eloping!) and green is my favorite.
I was a middle school teacher for three years, and even my students would always remark on my fanatical organization, record-keeping, color-coding ways. They would make fun of me for being obsessive about keeping my desk spotless and all the things on it lined up and in the same place, but they liked how my obsession with color-coding my whiteboard made it look like a rainbow.
I do many of these things too! MnMs by least to favorite color in pairs...checking the flat iron...and even arranging my clothes by amount of fabric, but I go left to right least to greatest...yeah. :)
I do the M&M thing too! By color, 2 at a time - one for each side of my mouth. I've also been known to get halfway across the parking lot when leaving work, then go back and double-check that I did in fact lock the office door. (I'm the only one there most of the time).
Also, I too hate my hands being dirty or sticky - I don't even use most lotions because they all feel "greasy" to me.
My guy teases me about this one - I can't go to sleep unless the bed is made and free of any pet hair or dirt. (Yes, dirt, his last apartment was on the beach and sand ended up in the bed all the time because it stuck to our feet).
I also group my candy in the color groups and start out with least favorite first and end with favorite..
The cleaning OCD has really been swept under the rug since I had kids. The house is clean, but I am not OCD about it. When it was only MY mess I cleaned it up right away. I would wash every dish I used as I used it. Throw in 3 other people's messes.. no way. I do dishes once or twice a day, but not as soon as they are dirtied anymore.. I let a group pile up and do them that way now.. (please let us move into a house with a dishwasher soon!!!)
lol.
I cannot have my food touching on my plate.
This extends to take outs. When FH and I were at a fancy restaurant for anniversary, I couldn't finish my food so I ask the server for 3 to go boxes. He looked at me weird. I explained I needed one for my veggies, one for me mac and cheese and one for my steak. He just laughed and FH told me he wasn't bring me anywhere again
I hate my hands being dirty. I wash them obsessively and I eat almost everything with a fork and knife. I eat burgers with the wrapper still around them. I never eat sandwiches they make my hands dirty.
Alright. Here goes. lol.
The shower curtain has to be closed at all times. Seriously. If my FI leaves it open I can't sleep because I just sit there and stare at it thinking about how I shouldn't be able to see our shampoo.
The Closet doors must also be closed. We have 3 laundry baskets full of dirty cloths that I never get to since I'm always having to wash our work cloths. I always think the dirty cloths will appear as if they are messing up the entire Bedroom.
I always check my alarm twice...and then call my FI in to look at it and tell me I set it for the right time as well.
Dang it feels good to get that off my chest. lol.
the shower curtain.. I have some weird shower fear. I don't know if it came from a movie or what.. but if it's at night and I am all alone in the house (except maybe the kids) and I go potty.. and the shower curtain is shut all the way.. I get a creepy feeling and force myself to open it and look in the bathtub/shower for a monster/serial killer.
If we are not planning on having guests, I make sure the shower curtain remains open to avoid having to do the monster check. If I plan on a guest coming I close it, or if a surprise guest comes and says they need to potty, I run in and close it.
WOW! I had no idea that there were that many people out there that are just like me :)
When I lived by myself, I had to check all outlets and unplug unnecessary items. I checked to make sure the stove and oven were off and when I closed the door I had to turn the door knob and count in sequences of 8 to make sure it was locked. Since I have been living with my FI I haven't had to check the house as much anymore (THANK GOD!).
I have to clean my apartment once a week no matter how tired I am, whne my apartment feels untidy and disorganized my mind feels cluttered
Cd's and dvd's have to be in their cases the right way...like if there is a picture or words on the cover, they have to be facing up. My fiance laughs at me because anytime we buy a new cd or dvd, I will immediately take the shrink-wrap off and then open it and fix the disk so it is facing up.
I have others, but that was the one that wasn't up here yet. :-)
@ilovenycmissie-I have to clean at least once a week too! It's amazing how fast stuff piles up!
I just remembered that when I put on deoderant I have to stroke down only and I have to do it 7 times.
everything is put in folders, bills, etc and they have to be the same color and labeled
my books are arranged by color so it will beautiful to look at
all shoes are in my shoe organizer I have two which hang on my closets, if they dont fit then it is time to purge (my apartment is small in NYC cant afford to have clutter)
lol. i don't think that i have enough time to list all of the ocd things i do, but here are some:
i arrange all of my art supplies, from oil paint even down to crayons, in color order. even those 96 packs of crayola.
i do not throw away fortunes from fortune cookies. i have every one that i've ever had since about 1998.
i arrange the books in my bookshelf in color order.
I have to sleep with the same number and arrangement of pillows every night.
I have to count steps as I walk up them... silently but even steps I use daily, I count them! Oddball huh?
@jennifer_espos - I count steps too! I don't always do it, but the majority of the time I do.
I will only eat the green color of skittles. That's my only OCD thing ... that I know of. Other than being obsessed with WeddingBee boards ... does that count haha
That's funny mhr, because I pick out the green skittles. They taste like Lysol to me... but orange and red... yum, yum!
Oh, and I always go through stores in a counter-clockwise direction. :p
:) good to hear im not the only one!
i realised last night that my latest obsession is hubby and the dining room chair. he never puts it back in its place so its become a huge obsession with me lately - to the point that i call him back to the dining room and make him put it backl
@Jennifer espos - when i walk up hills i count steps in groups of 4 steps which equals a count of 1 and then i usually give myself 25 counts to get up the stupid hill... i swear it helps me get up the hill faster
Do any of you find it hard to explain to your DH/FI about your obsessions? Are there any that you hide from him?
For instance, I memorize all numbers in relation to prime numbers (my phone number growing up was a sequence of even numbers that to this day drive me crazy). Or like how every cup MUST have a coaster, even if it is room temperature. My DH gives me the craziest looks sometimes, then he just laughs. I'm lucky because he thinks it's cute!
